If you are considering doing a tile backsplash, the first thing that should be done is removing the granite back splash. The tile should go to the countertops. Without removing the granite ones you will never be able to really create a great back splash with tile. A good tile installer should be able to remove it. There is no damage to the countertops when doing this.

You can use a tumbled tile which has a weathered look which honestly with your cabinets and granite would look good. You need something to break up it all up.
