I was going to try lower wattage bulbs first. Do you think they are too large for the island? Should we raise them higher? Wondering if I can/should make them work :)

I think they are absolutely gorgeous, but are they centered over the island? From the picture you posted, they look like they are centered slightly to the left of the island.

They are perfect! You made the right choice and will end up loving them once you get used to them. Also love your backsplash! Are they glass tiles? Enjoy your beautiful new kitchen!

Nice lights, like the stepped cabinets, too, given the ceiling height. I believe the dimmer is a nice idea. Do you have under cabinet strip fixtures? Just a thought that a valance with a cable light above the upper cabinets would be a nice accent, if you so choose. Happy Houzzing.
