Over-wintering small Maples on a window sill

Het, Just wondering.

Can you over-winter small maple seedlings or small maple bonsai on a window sill or do they have to be cold to go dormant?

I live in zone 5 and I have three small sugar maples and one small silver maple sitting on a window sill. They don't seem to grow in the so they're still dormant. So can I over-winter them sitting a window or do they need to be cold? Please let me know. Thanks

Well, seeing as it is nearly March, they have nearly overwintered already. Have they spent the last 3 months there? If so, about mid-March I'd start hardening them off in a garage and getting them ready to move outside. Roughly where in zone 5 are you?
