Living room to kitchen floor transition

We are going to update this kitchen but need ideas on how to tackle the floors. We would like to stain the hardwoods in family room a darker color, update to granite and put in better floors for kitchen. Any ideas on how to proceed?

Depending upon your budget and how practical you need the flooring to be, you should be able to match new wood to old exactly. If you want to keep the tile, which is very practical in a high-traffic area, go with a stone-look porcelain that works with your preferred stain color.

Thanks! We have flexibility on pricing, just want it to look nice and be practical. I know theres some debate on putting hardwoods in the kitchen but really want the two rooms to flow together so not sure which one to choose!

Your hardwood floor is beautiful! I would extend that into the kitchen!

Running the hardwood through the kitchen would be stunning, especially if it's in a darker colour. The kitchen is so neutral right now - the dark wood would add a feeling of richness and warmth.

Maybe incorporate family room floor color or similar into kitchen cabinetry. Also zig zag the floor transition boundary taking it to the side of the door closest to the kitchen.
