Fig Tree(?) overwatering

Hi all,

I had awesome help from this forum my first time. My Norfolk is doing much better, so I thought I would try again.

My parents gave me a tree to babysit back in October. We think its a Fig, but we're not sure (Light brown bark with 4 inch long oval leaves that come to a point. Also has never produced fruit. 30+ years) . Just before the move to my place we noticed it was sitting in it's tray full of water. It was very loose in it's soil and had been slowly dropping it's leaves.

I've recently trimmed the top 6 inches and re-potted it.

It gets about 6 hours of indirect sunlight a day (apartment isn't houseplant friendly)

Was this the right thing to do? How long should I expect for recovery? Is there anything I should continue?

Thanks
