I am not a designer by any means, but my first thought was a colour similar to the pillows on your bed for wall colour. It's difficult for me to tell the exact colour but it looks like it matches the rest of the room. You could also do one wall in a darker colour as kind of an accent wall.

As for window coverings, myself I would again choose similar colours to what you have already but maybe go a shade or so lighter. I would stay away from heavy looking window coverings (material wise) and opt for lighter material. Another option is to use similar colours as your throw pillows on the couch.

These are just some ideas, might even give you some ideas of your own, but hopefully someone with interior design experience will respond..and give you a better answer. : )

Thank you for your comments! We haven't decided on functional vs. decorative. It doesn't have to be functional, but it would be nice for some coverage to help with privacy.

Did you want to add color or stick to neutrals in the rooms? I'd match the wall color to the lamp shades, sheets and/or sofa. Just pick a white/ivory that works with all 3. Bring a paisley pillow sham along if you shop for curtains in store. Any of these quilts/shams in a solid color (ivory, tan, or grey) would work: Overstock

Are you opposed to painting the sitting room grey?

We just finished our first project (kitchen, living room, dining room, halls). The walls throughout all spaces are gray, which is why we would like different color(s) in the Master Bed and Retreat. See attached photos.

I like the idea of BM Natural Linen in the Master, or even a gray/blue color (just don't want too blue). For the retreat, we have tossed around the idea of a patterned gray wallpaper. My concern is the space is too small...maybe just an accent wall with wallpaper, then the other walls gray?

Since the furniture is quite dark and heavy, I'd find ways to lighten things up.... both walls and window treatment. A bit of crown moulding on the ceiling edge might be a nice finish. Keep away from the yellowish tone on the walls....

Since you are trying to avoid gray, I would go with a much richer version of what you have more like a brown paper bag or caramel color, but the room is screaming for white crown molding to make it contrast. I would also use white drapery panels with dark rod. Don't worry about going darker on the paint color, your bedding and white drapes will brighten it as well as give you a well balanced palette.

Melissa, what a different perspective, but I really like that too! What are your thoughts about the Retreat space?

Your chest is so massive with the large bed, consider putting it in the sitting room and wall mounting your TV on a swivel arm. This will also clear the bedroom floor so you can add some color under the bed by layering a rug. A similar rug in color and/or pattern would work in the sitting area.

Regarding Retreat; I'd use same paint color as bedroom (paper bag/caramel) with white crown. But this room needs pattern, so I'd do decorative drapery (non-functional) with larger repeat fabric, background should be white or off white to tie in with other space but I'd also suggest textured roman shade in a natural fiber for the doors. You could also add an area rug and a either a wicker or woven chair or ottoman. Finally artwork...a group of botanical prints would be perfect. Paint colors I've suggested are Ralph Lauren chocolate Brown vm23 or Ben Moore Spice Gold, as always test!
