Andersen guarantees their windows for 20 years, even through multiple owners. Should a seal start to lose air, they will come out and fix it. Andersen also only uses their own qualified installers. Andersen, Pella and other high-quality manufacturers are the way to go. Cheap windows are a false economy, so you did well to get something of that quality. You could contact the same company or a similar one for your other windows, and see what sort of a deal you could get for all the ones you need to replace. Check to see if Oregon will give you an energy credit for your new windows, too.

we had to satisfy the historic district commission when we were getting rid of our 70s aluminum combination windows, needless to say they were delighted but we had to go with all wood. happily Pella has a product which satisfied them on all counts, the muntins are between the 2 layers of glass and look great.

Those old wood, single glazed windows also result in higher energy costs. Restoration is also expensive. Invest in a quality window with good insulating qualities.

Hi Happy in the clouds, I do not know where you are in your project, you may have already completed it. As a designer I would always suggest to my clients to get the windows that stay consistent with the architecture, and maintain the sense of character and style of your home. I know that the historical committees push to maintain that original look, but in most cases it pays off in the long run because your home is becoming a"collectors" item in a sense. We are just doing the same thing, remodeling a 1920 bungalow in Portland. Going with double hung vinyl for the upstairs attic area. They will look the same as the wood from the outside but way more energy efficient . We are using Da Bella, Jeff was the rep and very efficient , they got great reviews and Lifetime warranty on install and the window, locally made windows and they do install. For the downstairs I will probably go with Marvin, since I want vinyl out and wood inside, also going to check out Pella.
