I would use a matte finish for all the surfaces if you want that seamless look. If you are going white you don't need to worry about the half pigment.

I often recommend a flat finish for ceilings and a satin finish for walls. My favorites are from Benjamin Moore -- Superwhite is one and the other is Decorators White. A flat finish on walls can be difficult to maintain, especially with kids and pets.
