My hubby went to the granite yard today and really likes the coffee brown. We will be adding lots of light, but I'm concerned that it will show every smudge or particle of dust. Anyone have coffee brown granite that can chime in and advise?

Are you getting all new cabinets or reconfiguring your island into a peninsula?

We have a contractor and no we are not painting the cabinets. The lighting is SO MUCH improved from what we had!

Coffee brown granite looks a lot like the tan/brown shown in this photo - which is my inspiration.

Funny story about the granite - Hubby took off work to be there when construction started and had to pick out the granite by himself (I couldn't get off work). Anyway, last night we went to a local bar for dinner since our appliances are now in our living room. We sit down at the bar and guess what? The bar top is the SAME COLOR as the granite he picked out!! Guess I know where his inspiration came from!

Need advice - the peninsula back and side (facing the living room) will be bead board. My thought was to have it painted chocolate brown, but I'm also considering white to match the trim throughout our house. The front of the cabinets will remain the honey oak that we have now. Floors will be a medium to dark wood, countertop is coffee granite (dark brown) and the walls will be a sage green. Do you think this combo will work? Also, the contractor is suggesting he stain the toe kick red oak to match the cabinets but wants to carry that around to the bead board side. I think the bottom trim of the bead board should match the paint on the bead board. Thoughts?

They started putting in the floors yesterday and WOW what a difference! Seeing how beautiful the floor is makes me really lean towards painting the back of the peninsula white. I just love how the new floors look against my white trim. Could really use some feedback here!

What about the wall color for the bead board?

Possibly.. Maybe with a dark glaze or wax over it? (I dabble in chalk paint). Last night we talked about a creamy white which will look great with the floors, but I hadn't thought about the sage green. That color would look awesome as well. I appreciate your input and will discuss with the hubby. Thanks again!

@emilyann819 - I think we've decided to go with a shade or two darker than the wall color for the back of the peninsula. I may still do a top coat of dark wax or glaze as well to give it a worn antique look. We'll see once it is painted. Thanks so much for the suggestion to go green!

New stools are in and the backsplash is laid out and ready to install. I love how the back of the stool picks up the design of the backsplash. They also match the hardware that is yet to be installed. But the best part is they are sooooooo comfy!!!!

I got to talk to the contractor for a few minutes this morning before I left for work, and he said our project should be complete by Friday!! Woo Hoooooooooooo, happy dance!!
