Painting by a pro, with pro grade conversion products sprayed instead of homeowner grade paint slapped on, averages 4-6K. Larger will be more, and high COL will be more, of course.

It's not compulsory to slap on paint if you DIY. You are allowed to get a bit clued up and do it well. But your point is made, Live_wire. Just couldn't resist.

Definitely get a pro if you can afford it. But be very careful with your selection of which pro. Some of those who profess the status know less than Genghis Khan about painting cabinets. Or, in a memorable case of my own, tiling bathrooms.

Oops. I think "if you can afford it" isn't very PC. If your budget allows.

Now, about the room. Look for a white edged towards cream -- which might or might not be called antique white. Lovely. I suggest you take the greenery down from the top of the cupboards, unless you really love it. It looks so squashed. I wouldn't change the blind fabric, which is pretty, until your cupboards are done. I suspect it might look prettier with the off-white cabinets than it does now. Anyway, time enough to consider the issue then. (However, I do like the pic BlenheimNZ posted for a change of personality for the kitchen.)

I notice a low cabinet near the door with wall space above it? How about putting a pinboard up there so that you can leave your refrigerator free of all that essential (I know) clutter?

Benjamin Moore Cloud White is a great warm not ivory white. Paint a sample and see how it works. I would paint first and then go from there. And it would not be a bad idea to find a 'white' that works with your cabinets. A good painter will be able to make some educated suggestions. Look for references and go see the work the painter has done. Also if you are doing paint you could have the bottom cabinets stained to match the island and just do the upper cabinets white.

... And add some crown molding on the cabinets.
