How are you planning to cover the resulting hole?

The fixture is currently down and miraculously there is a very small slit in the wood ceiling with a metal bracket over it to hold the fixture. We have a great painter who will patch the small area and repaint to match ceiling. New fixture will be moving about 3 panels toward the center of the room.

Think you'll be best served by a linear suspension. Get some inspiration at ylighting.com. I love this one from vistosi.

Might be nice to hang a fixture from two bars which could attach to the exposed rafters above the table in its new position. Custom ironwork could make this quite special. Otherwise, as you move toward the center of the room and the ceiling is higher, the hanging fixture becomes spindly in appearance and could visually clash with your drum light.

Draw pictures of the options before you spend money.

I opted not to have a chandelier/light fixture over my open concept dining at the strong recommendation of my decorator. He said it would be too limiting in future if you want to change out table, etc.. I have recessed lighting over the table with a dimmer and that works perfectly, however, my ceiling are lower. Having said that, I love your fixture but it does looks a bit out of scale in that awesome open space. Lowe's actually carries something like what you currently have but it is double, that may still be too small.

Do you have any links or pics? I'd like something with a vintage vibe if possible. Because we have a large table I do need a lengthy fixture. gqrol - thank you. I would opt for can lights if the ceiling wasn't slopped. We don't have a Lowe's near us but I see what you mean. Maybe time to take a ride. My main concern is having something that doesn't clash with the drum light and that won't block the view looking out from the kitchen.

Hi, check out Visual Comfort Lighting for some options too. This is the style from Visual Comfort that we have in our dining room and I think could look great in yours. It is offered in different finishes and with or without the shades. It also gives out good light. The std. size extends to 52 inches I believe but can also be ordered in custom sizes. Our dining room ceiling is approx. 11-12 ft. and the std. size worked for us.

Wow, that's pretty. What is the wattage of the bulbs? Is your table against a wall like the picture or in the open like mine is? Just wondered if the bottom iron work is in your view site line?

Avery... you said your ceilings are 11-12 ft. Is that a flat ceiling or a slopped?

There are 2 different stores I've seen it online....so I posted both.

As for my dining room, yes we have a flat ceiling. It is a separate room off of our entry/foyer area. We have not purchased a formal dining table yet....but when we do, it will be centered in the room under the chandelier (not against a wall). Yes we can still see the metal portion of the fixture sight-line wise.

We love this fixture....so unique yet classic at the same time. Not sure which finish you'll pick, but maybe the bronze or antique brass? Ours is the polished nickel. :-)
