I am trying to conceptualize our basement to encourage natural light flow, since it is a walk out, heat retention, it is not shut off from the upper level, and renewable design(repurposed materials like barn wood floors and doors etc). We have a studio in the basement for art and craft workings, the laundry is there too nicely tucked under the stairs. This studio has lovely barn wood floors and a very modern/rustic feel. All I need is money and someone I can trust to facilitate the build. Both are hard to come by these days. But slowly it will take shape.
