Ours is exactly like option 2. I don't know if putting the sink and toilet on different walls would be ideal.

Probably option 1? The others look a little awkward. Like peekaboo there's a toilet behind you! :)

Definitely option 2. Most logical, roomiest visually, and plumbing all on one wall.

I like #2 for the reasons bpath and jlc stated.

1 would be okay. 3 and 4 - not even close.

1 or 2, but it depends on what the sight lines are if the door is left open.

Benjesbride- I actually grew up in a house that had that powder room. The reason why I think this set up will not look ok in my new house is because we are actually doing a pedestal sink there. I could actually make a case for option 1, 2; and 3 if the sink is in a countertop. I totally get what the architect of the blog was saying.

Who knew a powder room could be the source of such dilemma in my head! I appreciate all the input so far!

1 or 2. Is the room square? If it's not square, I'd do whichever of 1 or 2 buys you more moving around room in front of the fixtures.

It is impossible to say without knowing the sightlines, but definitely 1 or 2. Show us the floorplan of the near area (is there just hallway across and all around, or can you see the toilet in #2 from the foyer? (for example) ???

1 or 2. Think about walking into the room and closing the door. You need enough clearance for someone to comfortably do that.

I say #1, that's what we have. I like that you open the door and see the mirror, pedestal sink, and vanity light. Would hate to open and see the toilet right in front of me.

Original poster here.... We've gotten used to keeping our powder room door closed in our current home. So I was wondering if most people leave it open (my mom does).

By the way, I'm leaning towards option 2.

We did option 1 and are happy with it. The door is open 95% of the time and the view is of the pretty mirror over the pedestal sink, and it actually reflects the light from the windows across the way, making the room brighter. Guests have no trouble finding the PR either.

The first house we ever built had option 1 - my current home has option 4 and I personally prefer #4. You can't see the toilet until you're actually in the powder room and there is space next to the pedestal sink for a thin bookcase/cabinet for supplies, lamp, candle or whatever without it being too crowded.

Option 2 for sure. I don't like the idea of the toilet right at the doorway.

We have option 2. It doesn't feel crowded and when you open the door you're looking at art work instead of a toilet, trash can, or messy sink (my kids use that sink to brush their teeth before school). It also gives you wall space to put a cabinet above the toilet for storage (I store toilet paper, a plunger and feminine hygeine products in ours) since there isn't a door in the way. We actually have a decorative niche inset into the wall opposite the door between the studs that holds a painting, a candle and a decorative kleenex box. It makes the room feel larger and gives us a place to put those things. Our sink is a pedestal sink.

I have option 2 also. Just looks better in my opinion.

How about.. Use a pocket door and center our along the wall, then put the toilet and sink opposite of one another? I like symmetry!!
