There are different "levels" of paint in both BM and SW paint. And then there is Behr and others sold by the big box stores. First point, always use 2 coats, regardless of the paint and don't try to completely cover the wall in the first coat. Most DIY painters try to cover in one coat and put too much pressure on the roller and leave roller marks. I use BM paint for dark colors always, their ultra deep base is less watery and covers well with 2 coats. I use SW Duration for all other colors. It holds up well, levels well and covers well. I prefer their matte finish and use an eggshell finish in BM. I have used Behr, but find it more difficult to spread out and self level. Another problem with the big box stores, is I find its hard to get consistancy when mixing colors (if you have to go back and mix more). All of the paint companies change colors, but the big box stores tend to not archive past colors, like BM and SW. Labor is the greatest expense in painting so buy the best paint you can, let it cure before trying to clean it (read the label). As far as enamel goes I do prefer BM Impervo. I'm not old school, but have not had the best luck with the low VOC paints covering well.
