What makes Benjamin Moore superior to other brands?

Are there a lot of differences between BM and others, such as Sherwin Williams or Behr? Does it cover well in one coat or are two coats required?

Well, that is a tough question to answer. BM has some great paints. Yes, I would say better then any Home Depot paints you will find. You may pay less at the register but spend much more time in labor hours to produce a fine finish. SW has some good products as well. Here's the thing.... there are certain products in both of those lines that are excellent and others not so hot. So, it really depends on your personal project. If you are going over the same color you may have a nice finish with one coat. However, 95% of the time you will always need to coats to accomplish a quality finish. Also, 2 coats is necessary to acquire the screen finish you have chosen such as matte, eggshell, satin. BM uses more solids in the products to produce higher quality finishes, longer lasting, easier to use etc. Good luck!

Quality of the product is essential, but I also want quality service. We rarely use SW paint now, although 5 years ago, we used their Duration exterior paint almost exclusively. The major reason for the switch is the quality of service and the technical assistance we receive from our local Pittsburg store. We had all sorts of problems with the local SW store, and they always had excuses, not action in dealing with our issues."It's this computer system, your account information is at a different store, that guy's new, we were really busy that day..."

The additional benefit is they know me. If I forgot my credit card, they would tell me to go ahead and take the paint and get the job started and drop by the store on my way home to close out the ticket.I know the original question was about product quality, but there are additional benefits to the decision to select the paint product just as carefully as selecting the paint color.

Thanks for all of your replies! BLC Painting, which BM lines would you recommend? Our house is a new build with flat white walls. We want quality but it doesn't need to be the highest, it does need to look good though. :)

Thanks for reaching out Sara! I would use BM regal select. Be sure it's not just regal but regal select. It is also a low voc which is better not only for the environment but the odor is minimal. You can add a few drops of vanilla extract for a nice odor too!

I most certainly would not say superior. A high percentage of manufacturers have really good top lines.
