Really? I thought this was one of those things that sounded neat but wasn't practical at all. I worked with a guy who was building a home. His wife wanted one of these and the builder told him they didn't work.

I'm not sure why the builder would say that. It sounds like he is a negative person who just spouts out opinions as facts. I don't here any substantiating information. To each their own :). Does anyone have any real life experience with an indoor/outdoor fireplace?

Maybe not negative but probably beyond the builder's skill set to do.

Are you talking wood burning or gas? That would definitely make a difference in the design. I'm assuming if it's gas that you'll have a fixed glass front on the outside to seal it so that it's for viewing only?

I found a discussion thread on these on another site. A lot of posters were like me in thinking these weren't practical but there were some that had them and liked them but they said that the design and installation were critical and often problematic.

We just finished our new build and included a Heatnglo Twilight two sided gas fireplace. On one side is our family room and on the other is our large screened porch. We love it! We live in the florida panhandle. I will post a couple of pictures.
