Wow! You must be a talented sewer! Can you make roman shades? If so, I would use the bird fabric on the windows. If you want panels, I'd probably use pink or blue polkadots.

I love the tree one too. You could do the same with the birds and put the pink polka dots on the back and trim it with the teal fabric.

What about adding a chair rail and painting the lower walls in the Aqua and the upper walls very pale baby pink?

Note on the dark teal fabric, if you add that to the bird print (which I love), what will stand out is the teal fabric. Likewise with the darker colors you selected. To make the bird fabric pop, consider much lighter colors to incorporate into your quilt. (this is the voice of experience, the bird fabric will get lost and that's what you really want to stand out)

Keep the darker coordinating prints for quilted pillows, a blanket for her doll's bed, or the backing, or accents in the room. Ultimately you can always add it to your stash for later. :o)

Its a small room meant for sleeping. I'd go with either a light pink or a light teal for the walls to keep the room bright.

The plain teal at the beginning of your post. I started a quilt with similar colors but instead of birds it had flamingoes in a very ornately colored background. I spent so much time centering those flamingoes in the pieces and all you could see was the darker, boring, teal fabric when you looked at it. I actually never finished that quilt because the top was so far from what I wanted.

If you aren't so enamored by the birdies, just be aware that light colors disappear into the background and dark colors push forward. What block(s) are you trying to use? You've certainly done an excellent job of finding coordinating fabrics in the latter photo of fabrics. Ultimately, it's what you want to stand out and the block pattern can contribute strongly to that. You might want to make a sample block, or blocks before cutting up all the fabric. (I always buy extra now so that I can do that before making an entire quilt.

Also, keep in mind, you can always from a block, or two, or three, or more, and hang it on the wall for extra interest.

If you are an average experience sewer and are willing to take on the challenge of a spread for your daughter's bed, I think you have the talent to be able to make Roman shades. Get a good set of directions and follow them carefully. It is only straight stitching. I think they would be very nice in the room. I also like the darker reddish/coral headboard with pale teal walls. Have fun!

I often work with little girls. In my experience, 4 year-olds definitely know what they like (colours, patterns, textures...) And what they like most is to "create" their room. Ask her to draw her dream room. You'll be surprised at how much you can learn from her drawing: what colour pencil did she use to draw the wall. What colour is her bed? Is there a doll, teddy bear or a dog/cat on the bed? For instance, if she likes princesses, don't use a bird motif, and if she likes birds, don't go with dogs! What else is in her imaginary room? Did you ask her what is her favourite colour? You might consider taking her to a fabric store (Fabricville, JoAnn... whatever is the closest to you). Ask her to point to her favourites. Pick a few for one side, and a stripe or some kind of a geometric print for the other, and pull a colour or shade from that.

I often refinish girls' furniture in white, as it is easy to accessorize. Add a little bling by using lucite knobs. Maybe a low mini-chandelier or tiffany style pendant above the night table instead of a lamp.

You can find an inexpensive desk at Ikea. Ikea also had adjustable table legs, so the table can grow with the child. It can be used for tea parties with dollies, for drawing and crafts, and later for homework, as you can add a set of drawers to the desk at any time.

You sound really creative, so have fun. You know your child best, so whatever you do, she'll love!

I gave her a few choices at the fabric store, based on her desire for pink or purple, and she picked out this birdie fabric. :) But she had a hard time narrowing it down...she just loves all things pretty! I know she will love the end result...it's just me overthinking it all.

If she loves the birdies, I like the aqua polka dot for reverse. And a light pink paint. White furniture with aqua drawers and crystal pulls. Don't overthink it. It will be beautiful. :)

Why pink paint over teal? Almost everyone else says teal. And she likes the birdies plus a bunch of the others in the fan deck of fabrics...should I not patchwork a quilt?

Teal is a great accent colour. Everyone usually likes it for someone else's room. When there is too much of it, it's a bit harsh and it's easy to get tired of it. It was trendy up until about last year, and it's on it's way out. Pink is a much "comber" choice and an all-time favourite for girls. I would not go with a dusty rose, but a fresh light pink that does not age.

I love the idea of the patch quilt with the birds, the other fabric with flowers and birds and the flowers. All in pinky tones. For reverse, I would still use the aqua polka dot. (That covers the whole right side of your picture of fabrics) I would also use aqua on the drawer part of the white cabinets. You can use an aqua ribbon for piping and accents. I would keep window dressings white with some buttons from teal fabric.

And an area rug to brighten the floor.

The look will be timeless.

Don't forget, this is just my opinion. You have to do what you like and what your daughter likes. Ultimately, she'll have to live with it for a few years, so you have to make this room for her, and not a bunch of strangers on the internet, who may or may not have same taste as you.

I would be careful about teal walls because the color is trendy now and can be overpowering in such large doses. Since your daughter likes pink, I would suggest you add white bead board or other wainscoting around the room and top it with a chair rail. Then, I would suggest you paint the area above the rail a very pale pink. I also would suggest white crown molding around the wall-ceiling juncture of the room. The fabric you have chosen is very pretty, and it will make the room just darling.

I like groveraxle's first photo, with the pale pink walls, the best. It is the color I had in mind. The aqua print shades are very pretty too.

I like the bird print, but I agree the scale is a little small. What do you think about this print? I love it for a girl's room and it would be age appropriate for a few years to come.

The fabric is sold by the yard or you can buy ready made pillows. I think even just one or two pillows with white bedding would look really sharp. You could paint the walls a complimentary colour and use one of the bold accent colours for accessories.

Nomimama: The pinks you are mentioning are not pinks, they are a version of a dusty rose. They reflect very little light, and the room will not have a happy feel to it, but darker, more subdued, ready to sleep. Your windows don't look south, so light is a factor. Look at Frosted Petal, Soft Pink, Pink Swirl, Whispy Pink, Pink Fairy. They all have different undertones, but reflect light very well for a bright look that encourages play and learning, rather than sleep. I also love the idea of the white bead board and crown mouldings as per sheilaskb.

Wicked white, very pretty but I would really like to incorporate the birds. Victoria, I will take a look at those colors, but they might be more pink than I was hoping.

What if you make curtains and a bedskirt out of the bird fabric and get a solid color quilt? Imagine a kid version of this:

The quilt set below is around $30 from Overstock. I think there's too much pink in this pic but I just wanted to show you options. Any of the items can be switched for blue/teal. I'd probably switch the sheets to the teal striped ones I posted earlier.

Not sure if I mentioned this before but my screenshots dull the colors. The colors are much more vibrant to start so I don't think a solid quilt would look too mature. Just tell your daughter it's an Aurora room (for teal, tell her it's Princess Jasmine). This is the duvet that I bought for my niece's Snow White room (as you can see it's very loosely based on Snow White):

Er612 I do love the idea of a solid quilt as she gets older...I can see doing that with the birdie quilt at the end of her bed. I think because my Naomi loves it, I'm gonna embrace the birdies and do a patchwork. That's how I'm leaning today. ;)

Viktoria, I really like the pale pinks you've chosen...I thought they were too light at first, but up against the trim, wow...the pink is much more noticeable. But just the right intensity. My top picks are Frosted Petal, Pink Bliss, Gentle Butterfly, and Pink Swirl. I see what you mean now...the pinks I chose were bringing the colors in the quilt down.

Her name's Naomi??! I love that name! If Naomi loves the fabric and wants it on her bed, 100% use it! You can always back the print with solid fabric to avoid getting 2 quilts. The room is gonna be adorable regardless. You have great things to work with and she's gonna love it!

I like the top too. She's 4 so it should be fun and colorful.

I would stick to the bottom (playful pink). It's just the right shade to live in without getting tired of it. It's bright and airy and reflects light well, so the room will always look "happy". I use it quite a bit for girls rooms, because no matter the shade of pink you use in fabrics, it does not clash.

Did you consider doing the reverse of the quilt in that pretty aqua stripe or polka dot?

Viktoria, the darker is Playful Pink...so top and bottom. Middle is Bliss Pink. Sorry for the confusion. It depends on if you enlarge the pic or not. Which pink is the one you use?

I am doing the back of the quilt in the teal polka dot. The park scene fabric is on order and I am looking for a stripe and maybe a tiny floral as well.

Two years ago I painted my (then 4) daughter's room a pink similar to the top and it was just too much. We've since moved and just finished building. Now 6, she chose pink again, but we went with a much softer pink. It's both lovely and won't be outgrown quite as quickly.

Her room will be beautiful.
