Bad idea. More things to go wrong in one appliance. It locks in your repair/replace options plus they aren't as time efficient as stand alone.

Unitized washers/dryer is a definite space solution available from GE in 24" and 27" widths. Another reliable options is a 24" stack front load laundry pair. Both roughly about the same price give or take when on sale. Depending where you live these are available in a few brands.

I am in the same dilema. Depending on how much laundry you do I found Artisan ARDW 129 seemed to get better reviews and is about $1000 cheaper than the LG models. Depends what you are needing it for. I'm leaning towards the Artisan myself. But people in the trades I spoke to have said they take about 4 hours to complete a cycle. The Artisan has programable timer so you can set it in the morning so the cycle is done when you get home which I like. Also for these type of units you need to remove the clothes right at the end of the cycle otherwise it can be quite wrinkly.

I'd love to know what you decided on.

Can anyone share their personal experience with any and all mfrs. of compact (24") washers and dryers? Need to stack but don't need to match bc have built stand for dryer. Can't afford Miele and SQ too large for small galley kitchen in condo. Assume unitized units don't work as well as 1990 unit currently in condo due to gov't imposed water level restrictions.

Bc I've heard it's difficult to find parts and someone to repair LG and Samsung and desire vented dryer, appears only have GE and Blomberg to choose from.

Leaning towards washer (most imp.) choice of Bosch or Electrolux, though interested in whatever anyone has to say about any others.

Hey i initially bought a w/d GE combo and i had several problems with it . First mistake was buying online from Home Depo, tho in store isnt any better . after they finally, actually showed up the guy was honest enough to tell me GE had a deffect iin n this combo Told me samsung was good when I asked

i also learned a GOOD LESSON about combos from service tech! No matter what brand, get units that stack SEPARATELY, not that are combined unit like i got….my washer went bad so the whole unit had to be replaced with two units stacked, you dont have to get rid of whole unit

I wouldn't buy a stacked-and-attached combo unit, ever. An all-in-one combo has its merits and I'm looking to replace one that's survived 16 years of heavy use, mostly with renters, but am mindful that they are complex. The big issue aside from not being able to wash and dry different loads at the same time (a dealbreaker for larger households) is that most of them use a lot of cold water on the dry cycle to condense out moisture, and there are very few models that go the more sensible route of using a heat pump to dry and thereby avoiding water use on the dry cycle because Electrolux managed to get EU and UK patents on combining a heat pump drying system with a washer, so basically you've got just LG and Turkish manufacturer Arcelik (through their Blomberg brand) chasing a very small non-European market with heat-pump washer dryers, and both with disadvantages; the LG one is very expensive and the Blomberg one is quite small and needs 240 volts.
