A Canadian couple purchased a Mediterranean style home in the Coachella Valley, yet wanted to have their yard reflect a more modern style, reflective of Palm Spring's historic and celebrated natural surroundings.

First, there was one main legibility issue of "Where is the front door?" It's around the side of the house, yet if you keep walking straight down the concrete path you end up in their backyard. Just a strip of lawn separated the spaces. Solution: We needed to create a "node" (stopping point of interest) at the front door to aim visitors toward.

Second, the garden was boring, overgrown and swallowing the walls-filled with over 40 bougainvillea vines. Solution: Clean up, repaint, and organize a modest variety of desert adapted plantings and rock.

Lastly, the pool was showing several years of wear and tear. Solution: without breaking the budget and remodeling the pool entirely, we gave the spa a new veneer, and the whole pool's waterline tile was updated with a modern and custom glass tile that reflected the homeowners interior styles and colors.
