VERY Vaulted Great room

Great room is 21x28 x 28' tall at the vault... 9' over the wall of windows currently covered by 14' of vertical blinds. I want to possibly put wood (flooring?) maybe walnut up the walls on the ends of the room to the 9 foot mark... maybe a crown type moulding or band around with some up lighting and the top of the walls do a venetian plaster technique to hide the poor drywall job that was done. I just dont know if I should do wood all the way up the 'gable' ends or part of the way, and should it go horizontal or vertical (i've seen it both ways on DIY shows).... one end of the room has a small gas fireplace with golden oak (yuck) surround and the bedroom door... the other end has the staircase to the 2nd floor and large opening to the kitchen. I like the timber frame look... are there any free sites where you can put in your dimensions, colors, favorite finishes etc... and it gives you pix or drawings?.... OH, also, the ceiling is currently popcorn finish :-( and we'd like to put in some fake beams to break up the huge ceiling and then put wood (tongue and groove?) between them.... Too much wood, on wall and ceiling? Use the same? then a lighter wall color? HELP.
