Use blue painter's tape to mark off where the pictures will go and see how it looks porportionally. If three looks right, go with three. If there's too much empty wall space, go with four. It all depends on what looks right to you and your husband.

If you can't come to an agreement, you could always go with a larger picture picture or other art work there as well.
