My daughter just googled teen bedroom design and liked those two images best..

Google Tiffany teen room and you'll find loads of inspiration. Let her pick out the elements she wants from the pictures that you agree on. An upholstered headboard works well for the glam look. If she's crafty at all get her involved in making artwork or possibly the headboard with your assistance. Fun for you both.

They have headboards at good prices at Ikea. There is one with storage areas in the sides. Install her drapes higher so they are just kissing the floor. Ikea has little side tables too to put a lamp on. They also have lamps.

My first thought was to use 4 or 6 magnetic boards from IKEA and create your own headboard by hanging the boards so they form a rectangular arrangement over the bed. It will visually create a headboard. She can customize by adding things to the magnetic boards. I would continue to bring in the grey by painting the frames of existing wall hung pieces and finding some second hand pieces, such as a night stand and chair and letting your daughter have fun painting for herself. Even a lamp base can be painted so look at the size and shape of things rather than focus on their existing color or finish. Teens spend a lot of time in their room so a small chair might be just the ticket for added comfort as well as a place for her BFF to sit and hang out. Second-hand TV armoires are pretty inexpensive and can easily be transformed into amazing storage and a place to house a lot of things that can clutter up the space. After it is painted, I would move the bulletin board over the new white chest of drawers you have shown here and hang necklaces and other necessities on it for easy access. Her bling will serve double duty as both jewelry and art that way.

We bought a second hand armoire for our daughter's bedroom. It had 2 drawers and the shelves behind the doors on the top. We painted it from the honey oak color to a satin black. On the inside of the doors, we added corkboard on one side and a dry erase board on the other. The drawers she uses for clothing storage and the top part, with the shelves, has her perfume collection, makeup, hair accessories and all the little incidentals that every girl needs. We found some adorable little baskets to organize. She is thrilled and so am I cause all of that stuff is put away. You could paint yours white to match the dresser. This picture was her inspiration.

I love the white dresser. It made me thing of doing the room in a French theme. Maybe taupe or light gray walls with French fashion plates or posters to bring in color. Maybe add a chandelier or blingy lamps.

So tvan... French theme... what a great idea, wish I had thought of it. (:

switch out the light fixture (a glam chandelier) and to save money make a headboard out of beadboard and trim as I did for a client.

Have you thought of using an old fireplace surround at the head of the bed? Find one with some detail and cut off the sides if it is too narrow. Sconces with some beading take virtually no space and a curvy chair or stool doubles as a side table or perch for a visitor. A small chandelier is a necessity! Raise the bed and put nice storage containers underneath so the second dresser can be deleted. Put silvery gray drapes ceiling to floor over sheers (also ceiling to floor). A cheval mirror with a charcoal or black frame (preferably metal and narrow) and a wall of posters, photos, and/or special mementos in white, charcoal or black frames and shadow boxes complete the room. (Save space for a petite upholstered chair if wanted.)

Gray and sparkle can make the room more grown up. Try a gray headboard with silver (or in this case I used rhinestone) nailhead to contrast the wall color.

How about going with some silver with that turquoise paint? Orange is also great and very updated with turquoise.

If the room is small, loft the bed slightly and put shelving and/or drawers underneath (a real help when my girls were teens with lots of art supplies!) We found the Container Store drawer units were great, came in a variety of colors (tho their bedspreads covered them - buy the bedspread "up" one size to make it longer on the sides), and could move to college with them. The drawers were single units that can be easily stacked, and in college could double as a side-table. My daughters liked their beds up against the wall with big pillows so they could use the bed like a sofa.

Here's a $27 pop of color that she might like behind the bed.

We are slowly adding the details to my 15 year olds room. I really like to think I am a designer so here is my idea. ; ) Center her bed on the wall it is on and add a small side table to each side. We have been looking at many side tables at Target that are modern and teens would like. Many choices and provide a nice surface to lay items and a lamp. I also liked the side tables that are baskets to give some texture to the room. The other idea is to use a simple set of matching garden stools at each side--just enough to lay a book, charge a phone, but not enough to clutter (my daughters problem). Home Depot has garden stools and we had discussed spray painting them gold (very big now). We did a planked wall behind my daughters bed. It took some time but a great wall of interest and could act as a "headboard". My daughter hung bakers twine from one side to the other and is clipping polaroids of her and her friends across the line. It drapes over her bed and is really cute. The new dresser is great and appears to have a French look? My daughter couldn't decide if she wanted that or a more preppy/Lilly Pulitzer look. She went with the preppy. However, remember that if you/your daughter loves something it will work. I think with the blinds you have the light control you need and would get a lighter weight/airier curtain and perhaps a more delicate rod. I should probably wrap this up so for the wall across I would suggest a longer dresser. My daughter placed a lamp and a mirrored tray for perfumes, etc. Now, the dresser was a gift from her grandmother and furniture can be pricey (tip--check PB kids and Restoration Hardware Baby for furniture in the clearance. You can get much better prices on full size furniture and other items!!) Actually, if no more space for clothes is needed I suggest this--and it is much more price friendly--a "round a bout" chair from PB Teen or two if they will fit. this would be great! I place for friends to hang and not be on her bed. My oldest does a lot of her homework in hers--very comfortable! And a little garden stool between the two or a small table--perfect! You can see I get excited about this stuff. Of course, PB is great and if you have their card you get money back. I am a big fan of framing cool looking greeting cards in matted frames as accent pieces. If she is going for a Parisian edge check out Papyrus cards. They are little works of art to frame. Set on a dresser or nightstand really cute. Or in a bigger matted frame and several together you can put several on a small wall. Of course, use the bed decorating tool on PB to add in the comforter you have and then pillow accents/sheet accents. As for color of room--start with a blank slate unless she loves this color to open up the options for bedding accents. I will check back if any questions. I could try to load photos if interested. I would also get the bed up higher and check out ikea for that if wanting to go inexpensive.

Mom, this could be a great opportunity for your teen daughter to start making important decisions on her own. It can teach her the right and wrong way to go about it.

What I'd suggest is she goes to the library and pulls out all the books on bedrooms--specifically for teens if there are a few--and then show you her favorites. From there, you can make a trip to the paint store to pick out chips and then samples, she can paint these on the wall, look at for a few days to see which is best, can talk to the paint experts in the store for tips and understand (through reading about decorating) the finer points of color and furniture placement.

From there, she can go with you to a thrift or furniture store, or both. At a thrift, she can learn how to see past the obvious--an old headboard--and envision what it would look like painted (by her). Or she can have the freedom to choose a headboard she feels would look best. Either way, give her the autonomy to learn how to make choices. Granted, you have the ability to put a dollar limit on the project too!

I remember how proud I was as a teen to have chosen the color scheme for my bedroom, it was the only thing in the house that was actually "mine".

We do good when we given teens the freedom to make choices, especially when it comes to their personal space. Whatever she decides, I'm sure it will turn out lovely--please do post pics so we all can see!

I'd remove the brown dresser and everything off of that wall and place the white dresser there. Next to the bed could be a shorter piece, like a desk or vanity and will also give room for a small bedside table on the other side. Get a headboard that sits a bit higher to balance the tall, white dresser that you'll move to the other side. I do virtual design services, if you're interested.

Indian tapestry on the wall behind the bed (instead of a headboard?).......Doesn't she need a desk for her computer? Where are the shelves for her school books, etc? How about a bulletin board (can be covered in co-ordinating/contrasting fabric and still functional)? Her room just looks so bare, but if she is a teenager, I would think her life is very very busy--and her room should reflect that, with things on the wall, places to show off and/or stash her stuff, etc. plus somewhere for her friends to sit when they come over.

My daughter is now 16 and her room has had to adapt to her changing interests, etc. since she was 13. My main advice is let her choose, within the budget and subject to your veto. Also, Storage is vital.
Allow for flexibility because her needs and interests will probably change- or at least accumulate-- during high school.
Floating wall shelves are great for displaying her photos, etc., and she can change what she chooses to display on them.

Finally, She might like a bright, fun rug!

I would use your colored (I assume you have one) ink jet printer, with Photo Paper (anywhere that has paper - Walmart, my drugstore, my grocery store - anywhere with office/school supplies) and go to Google - search on a subject she loves, i.e. I'm doing my master bath with fantasy fairies, or

That was dumb - hit submit when I wanted to attach photos. Find images that suit her interest - below are fairies, butterflies, cats, surrealistic art, the subject matter is unlimited.

Download ones with high resolution - if you click on the google image - it will say visit page or view image - and above that - the resolution of an image - like 708 x 1003 is more than good enough.

These were found through Google - which lead me to a free wallpaper site - those are always high enough quality.

Open the image - use even a free photo editing app/program - and change the image size to the size of paper you are using - say 8.5 x 11? - I make the images to 8 x 11 - because you can find nice looking, super inexpensive frames for them.

You can print out -5 - 10 whatever you want then put a collage of the pictures - say over her bed - or on a wall - or you can choose to distribute the one each around the room.

I have an Under the Sea themed half bath -- and I found paintings of dolphins, whales, etc., half underwater and half above - as if you dropped a piece of glass down and separated you from the water. I printed several and would put like three on the largest wall - one slightly to the side and below the other - above the toilet, and the shortest wall - just one image.

The cost to you is the paper - usually around $20-$30 one time cost - use glossy - it's the best - the frames - I find them on sale for about 2 for $10 or even less. - and depending on how many you do - the ink - that's the big expense - mine on a bargain are $35. Ink always ends up costing more than the printer!

The paintings/images -would make the room more "hers" - with her interest.

This a great opportunity for her to be a big part in her own design. Gray is such a big color right now. Accessories with gray details will help tie in the comforter. The monogram in the teen room above is made by painting an inexpensive art canvas, wrapping in a fabric and a cut out from simple white foam board. Hers could be a gray background with teal fabric. The other artwork is using scrapbook paper in the same colors of the comforter. Have fun!

My daughter grew out of a similar sized room and is now 25 in her own home. Girls need shelving , mirrors and a place for friends.Here's ideas.

Each side of the window - shelving unit

change bed to other wall. - when you walk in, her room will appear larger.

instead of headboard - put up strips of molding about 4 inches wider than the width of the bed, or wider to include the width of bedside tables, and however tall up the wall you want - 65 inches- and frame in a gorgeous piece of wallpaper or paint it a solid color that is in the bedspread. paint trim white.

above the white dresser, either lean a framed mirror or attach one to the wall -not too big though. leave dresser where it currently is.

you should now have room for a couple small funky chairs for friends to sit when they come to hang out. fluffy white chair pillows would look nice. place chairs along wall where bed currently is.

Usually I like to make the bed the focal point, and you can by reversing this plan, but because that wall is shorted by the need to open closet doors, I think this way would have a more spacious feel to it.

Loft bed? Then you could gain space underneath for a desk or dressers or something.

The dresser is amazing! I would use it and go with a french theme as suggested by others and add a chandelier! If she doesn't want the dresser I'll take it hahaha

The room definitely needs a chandelier! That would really set things off. Plus, does she have friends over? Maybe some comfy poufs or cushions for the floor. Could you sand and paint the brown dresser? Some photos on the wall - something big. A rug. I'd even like to see you find/refurbish/buy an antique/vintage picture frame and turn it into a jewelry hanger and put that on the wall. I don't know if she wants something feminine, but toned down, or something sleek and more gender neutral, but I like the idea of tone down femininity in that room. The aqua and gray is nice, but what is her third color? Lavender? Lime? Black? Maybe something more WOW, like yellow or pink? I think if you find that third color, the room will sort of take off from there.

Jazz up the walls with some of those fun stick on stencils and add some crown molding. She definitely could use a study area with some more shelving. A curvy headboard would be fun or even a white wrought iron bed frame. If there's room in the budget replace the ceiling fan light with something a little more girly.

may I suggest a white board, chalkboard or area for colorful post it notes? our teenagers friends lived leaving their mark and our daughter would write inspirational sayings.
