No we did the walls in a matte to contrast the built ins.

thank you so much for answering, that is very helpful. I love this room and am planning one similar using paint BM Dolphin (fingers crossed!). With cabinetry to either side of a window like this...would you go all the way to ceiling even if there is no crown molding? (kitchen cabinets stop at 8' with 9' ceilings...would you do same for book case?).

I'm a big believer in taking my cabinetry right to the ceiling. I routinely design friezes to go on top of the cabinet box to extend to ceiling. This way you can add crown all around the room and it feels pulled together and taller. Stopping short of the ceiling is like putting a pair of floods on in a room.

Meredith- Thanks for all the details- its so helpful! With the matte walls, did you keep the trim and the door/window matte as well or did you do enamel for the trim and window?

A Benjamin Moore swatch of lead gray 2131-30 does not look nearly as blue as these cabinets. I know a gloss finish will change the appearance slightly but I can't see this turning out looking like this picture. Perhaps color correction enhanced the blue I'm seeing?

@drshull - this is how it turns out in photos. You need a flash which drastically alters how paint colours on any surface appear. It's also why you can't base your colour selection on what the designer used and expect it to look the same in your house. Lighting, direction of the windows etc all play a part in achieving a colour. You're always best to find a paint that looks how you see a photo than to try and get the same results by using the paint specified in the story. But colour experts like myself do know how to manipulate hues using sheen as I did for this project. Not something everyone can do with success and accuracy.

I also find it hard to believe that this is lead grey. Can you add another picture with different lighting?
