I don't know if this is what you have in mind, but your description reminds me of a polished marble mosaic I found at our local FloorNDecor -- see below. The pieces are 1"x3" (I think?) -- I brought a couple of samples home just to check them out in my kitchen lighting. It's very, very nice, and I can't say that I've totally counted it out yet (except that smaller tiles means more grout lines in a kitchen). They're actually not as beige as in the bottom pic.

Javiwa- that is exactly what I am talking about! Thanks! I will look into that. :) I lean towards ceramic only because I am getting fantasy brown quartzite, and so far, when I put marble next to it, it looks off. But the hues here are warmer so it may work...very nice!

Hoping you can get some samples home and put eyes on it -- it's the only way to know for sure (but sounds like you know that already!). I did bring home another style months ago, and it was indeed a bit warmer. If I can find that style (w/ codes and all), I'll post it.

Heath ceramics has some white & off-white colors in their modern basics line. $16.50/sqft. They sound like what you've described, although the differences are probably more subtle than the tile javiwa shared.

Ok, found the other FnD sample I brought home a while back: it's a brushed travertine, hitting more of the taupy notes, but maybe not what you're looking for. I was just going for colors and grabbed what I could. I didn't like the unfinished feel of the tile (again, for kitchen use), but I did like that this particular style didn't have all the little holes that are typical in many travertine BS tiles. As with lots of travertine, this did take on a slightly pinkish tinge in my kitchen -- not as bad as others I've seen, though.
