Of the two, I like the lighter green. I think the deck should be a different color, though. Light to medium gray.

The shutters are too small for your large window; just remove them. I would paint the deck railing a lighter color something that will blend into the color of the house and possibly the floor as well. The dark color would look good on the floor of the deck, but how much cleaning to keep dirt and mud off.

Duh! Get rid of the shutters! Thanks for the recommendation. It will definitely clean the lines up. I think we are going with the dark color for both the decks and rails, and then the French door. Still considering painting the window mullions to match....

I'm not sure how much sun you receive on your deck but the darker the colour the hotter the surface will be.

If you get rid of the shutters, definitely go dark on the mullions and rails. The deck should be a different color, though. You've got competing lines and a lot of area to consider, relative to the body of the house.

Wouldn't having the deck and rails in different colors make it even busier? Currently the trim and deck are a few shades darker than the house, but very similar. You can see how it just looks like a LOT of tan. I'm hoping the dark deck will disappear a little, particularly the posts. The color is Sherwin Williams "eclipse". The lighter color is SW Connected Gray. They are right next to recorder on the same strip. But the lighter one looks a bit like wet clay on the deck...not so up on the house, but I don't think it would look right with dark rails.

Go lighter for the deck floor and rails. Dark will absorb more heat from the sun and make it hard to walk barefoot. Agree to remove the shutters.

We've tentatively decided to go with "SW Eclipse-6166" for the deck. We are removing the shutters, painting the french door, and leavings the windows as is for now. I'm worried about making a mistake with this. Part of me wants to just not do it and replace the decking and rails since we know we're going to have to in a few years anyway....sigh. What's the cost-range on replacing the deck boards and installing a steel cable rail system like this?

I would lone that deck but I would hate for spend time getting bids and talking to builders if it's totally out of my budget. Anyone out there ever replaced their boards with Trex that can ballpark this for me?
