We have white oak hardwood floors in the front hall and living room. We removing a wall between the hall and the living room and our contractor said that will leave a 4" x 4' gap in the floor. He said even if he puts new wood there and refinishes the whole room, the new wood will take the stain differently and it won't look right. Do I really need to tear up the beautiful floor that is already there to be able to remove this wall? I would be staining it a darker color if that makes a difference.
