Owners of homes much smaller than his have closed-off rooms, or wings of rooms. I don't get someone asking what to use spaces for; use them for whatever you want. And don't use the rest. Done.

I'm still not convinced that he's legit. Something about his voice seems false for a young-ish male. But if he is legit I feel for him. He states he has no friends and seems isolated in this huge house. Good for him for restoring it but I worry about him personally.

It really is a lovely house. And it seems relatively inexpensive. I would probably paint the peachy/pink walls and add some life to the dreary bedrooms but other than that I could move right in,

@emmarene - I agree that forums are totally a way for the unsociable to interact. A while back I dated someone just like that - they were chatty online but in person just about wanted to hide in the corner. They had a lot of other things going on though that they really needed to talk to someone about. In the end I felt really sorry for them and wished them only the best.

About the house... I would have a really hard time doing the renting/boarding thing only because I went that route in the past with spare rooms in our old place. It didn't end well - this one guy ended up being a complete pervert, but the girl who wanted a room only to store a few things in only so she could hide the fact that she was living with her BF from her parents was low maintenance.

I can relate to buying a place that's bigger than you need - our last house we knew we would live in for only 2-3 years and four bedrooms sell a lot better in the area than three. It was sort of a buy-live there-flip kind of situation and it worked out. We're in a big place here too but it's because kids are right around the corner and the house was the perfect sort of blank canvas in terms of its location, footprint and lot size which we could use to build our dream.

About his place... my only advice would be to try and focus on specific areas first and get them 100% complete before moving on to the next one. It would be disheartening to me at least to walk around with everything 15% done.

I found the comment that none of the interior walls are load-bearing very unusual. Also, cement floors on upper stories with hardwood on top. I need to look into that. Curiouser and curiouser...

Amazing home. I cant believe the price he got it for. According to zillow's estimate, he has 600k equity. The home looks to be in pretty good shape.

Lovely home! The person who out up mthose ridiculous swags all over the house needed a good talking to :-). The only false note i see architecturally is the type of paneling going up the main staircase. It doesnt fit the quality of the rest of the house and should either be stained darker and given beefier, higher trim on top and bottom, or replaced with a more substantial wood molding----or nothing, and commission a painted mural of the delaware countryside on the drywall!

I agree with kswl about the staircase wainscoting and the swags. Other than that and some landscape trimming/freshening, it is a wonderful house. I am firmly in the "painted wood trim" camp usually. But in this case, it would break my heart to see the wood painted.

I cannot believe all the unnecessary comments people post on threads like his.

I know Allison, esp. the ones suggesting sheltering homeless people (a worthwhile thing to do) but I noticed none of the posters saying, "I have a homeless family living in my spare room, so I think you should do that, too." Or opening his home to the public; how many of us are willing to do that? Sheesh, not me.
