Here's Big Red, finally finished!

It's real name is City Tracks by Cherri House from her book, City Quilts, and it's 96x102. Just in case there wasn't enough red on the top, my sis chose a red-on-red polka dot backing. It's being FedExed to New York tomorrow. It's always a bit scary to mail or send a quilt, but how else do you get it there? It's always so satisfying to finish a quilt.

It's huge, what a big job but it is lovely! The backing suits it. I'm not a lover of polka dots, but I like these.

This is the bomb! I would make sure there's a readable signature of receipt and handed directly to her. (trust me on the 'readable' part.......signed then printed)

Your sister picked a great backing fabric to soften the linear lines of Big Red! The quilting looks gorgeous, as usual.
Did they love it???? Was it a surprise?
It feels good to have it finished and out of the house, doesn't it?

My sister was going to NY from Madison, WI, to visit, so I sent the quilt to NY so that it would arrive while she was visiting. She hadn't seen it in person yet, and she was the one who helped pick out the fabric and paid for the whole thing. My nephew and his wife were so excited. Kristin came home from a business trip on Mother's Day and had no idea that it was on her bed. Their apartment is so small that you can see into their bedroom from the entry, and she was just overwhelmed. They didn't expect it for a long time yet. I got the most beautiful voice mail from her (I was out when she called), and then she sent photos of it on their bed. My nephew loved it too. It was a very gratifying experience for me.

Now, my sister's other son who also lives in NY with his wife (and soon a baby) has told us what they want for their quilt. It sounds like it will be almost a whole cloth quilt but with a band of modern graphics running horizontally across the lower third quarter of the quilt. It will be in greys, browns and beige - a little different than Big Red. My sis is designing the graphics, and I will have to figure out how to piece it. This will be a challenge. And now I'll need a baby quilt for them too.

And yes, Marsha, it feels really good to have it done and gone - and appreciated.

Wonderfully satisfying outcome to Big Red for us all :). I love a great quilt present story!!!
I can't wait to see what your sister designs for the next quilt.

I have a book for cute baby quilts to recommend. I haven't made any from it yet, but I will. You can make one of these easily & it won't stress your brain.
