These doors are sealed against winter cold but like the windows, it will be chilly especially when the temperature drops below -10°C. I highly recommend in-floor heating if possible.

Although beautiful, doors like that do have the potential to be real energy-drainers, winter and summer. Even if they are sealed, the thing that will really help is installing some energy-efficient shades, like these, to block in that cold air during the winter. Another thing to consider is the amount of light that those are letting in. Although sometimes that is nice, other times, like when the sun is particularly bright or you are away on vacation, you'll want to have the privacy and light protection of shades. Although manufactured by Bliss Noram, Chateau Window & Door Systems provided this system to the client. In reading some of the previous comments I will address a few of the questions. The system is North facing and is not subject to excessive solar gain. The two thicker panels on the top are motorized awning windows to allow for ventilation. This particular project was fully compliant with the building code energy requirements for door and window systems at the time. Given the recent changes, we now have a new product which provides the same aesthetic with enhanced thermal characteristics.
