Would a black sink look odd with a white kitchen countertop?

We're redoing our small galley kitchen. The cupboards will be white, the appliances are white too with a bit of silver grey accenting. The counter top we've picked is a quartz composite that is mainly cream with some black and grey accents.

I'd like to do something a little less dull then a stainless steel sink - do you think at black composite sink would work? I'm thinking a black sink with either black or oil rubbed bronze faucet and matching hardware for the cabinet doors.

We want a traditional look - the house is older as is the furniture etc.

The sink will be about 31 inches wide (a medium sized sink) so I don't think it will overwhelm the space.

This is definitely a modern home, but Hecker Guthrie left some more traditional elements - like the paneling on the cabinets and the fireplace. You can see the whole Toorak residence here: http://www.heckerguthrie.com/cms-all/index.php#150
While a black sink and hardware are more modern looking, I think you can use black finishes with more traditional elements because black is so classic. If you like the look of a black sink (basically a void), then I'd go for it.

If it's a farmhouse sink, I prefer a white sink with white counters and a black sink with black counters.

I agree on white for a farmhouse sink, I don't really like them so that's off the table.

The West Hills is a closer look to what we'll have, all of the black sinks with white kitchens have been very modern looking which makes me hesitate. The search algorithm on Houzz seems to pull up an awful lot of poor matches - most of the photos are white sinks and black counters

Why risk using a black sink? You already have reservations or you wouldn't have asked. Go white.

I don't want white. I think it'll be too plain tbh. I was hoping for something different. A couple of people have been very positive on the black sink but as you said - I have reservations.

It's going to be white cupboards, white appliances, white counters and white trim. The back splash will likely be white tiles too.

Black would look very sharp. I would ask about hard water stains/build up. Black porcelain (as in toilets) have a LONG and NASTY history of showing HORRIBLE "urine yellow" hard water stains that are almost impossible to remove.

As if the composite material will have the same issues. If so, then look to something else.

31" is actually not a medium sink. its pretty big.

i'm all for a stylish black sink. but i just want you to know its a big sink.

my sink is 26" and i can fit whole fridge shelves into it.

i'd suggest go big and light or medium and dark.
