I designed this backyard to give a outdoor space for adults and kids but don't know what's needed to help improve the overall look and feel

A couple of colorful umbrellas would be nice and a matching swing chair a colorful outdoor rug under the seating area and some cushions that go with the rug and some awesome table linens and dishes would make a huge difference and also some pots of flowers

I never put swings because of the limitations it would cause to the backyard
Or a shed as well

It needs plants and color. Take the turquoise from the chair and bring the color to the patio with pillows and pots filled with green plants and red blooms.

I second pergola suggestion if only to give the illusion of privacy from buildings around looking down on you.

I like the idea of the pergola

I would like to add plants or trees or waterfall but hate the idea of making it permanent

maybe if it was on the edge only?
