Taupe houses look great with black shutters. Maybe you should go with a different color than taupe?

You could do the trim color or a lighter or darker shade of the taupe. Although black is my preference as well.

Don't take me seriously... how 'bout a different SO? The starter photo is stunning, IMO black sets off the taupe and white and I like the idea of a stained door. I like this taupe (a taupe of a different color, though) with this green & this coral door.

Anything very dark as katt mentioned, almost black, for shutters. I very much like our neighbors' black shutters with red painted door on taupe siding, but maybe your neighbors have already done that, so you want a different variation. I agree--use HOUZZ to look up tan or taupe siding and see what pops up.

How about a charcoal gray shutter, not black but would look good with the taupe, and a dark red door.

Olive green? Nah, I love the black!

Firstly, let me say I am not a color expert so my next
comments may be naïve or off base. I
didn’t know taupe can be in such different variations. The starter picture I provided is what I
thought was taupe, and the taupe I like I can describe as a grayish color
with a tint of olive green blended in.
Is this really taupe or is what I described called something else?? I know others view taupe as more grayish
color with a tint of tan/brown blended in.
I am confused. Anyway, my view of
this greenish taupe is what I intend for my siding, and for the shutters that I
need to complement it. I will see if my
SO would go with the charcoal gray siding, as it is not technically black and
it would in my mind be a classy look that delivers close to what the black
shutters would deliver and looks great with the red door. For my SO, the problem with the black is not
because of other houses using it in the neighborhood, it is because it
subjectively symbolizes darkness, unfriendly, foreboding… The
green and slate blue suggested look great against the siding examples provided,
but to me those siding colors are not what I was intending though. Any other advice or education will be
appreciated, thanks!

I’m painting my house a taupe or “greige” color. I’m with your fiancé. I hate the black shutters. I cringe with every picture I see of them. I’m also looking for an alternate color.

Black, charcoal gray or white shutters IMO.
