Toriat, so do I. i think they just need to have a little lustre put back into them. hence i am thinking of clear gloss tremclad paint. imagine them sprayed with water. that is how it would look? what do you say to that?

I'm not usually a fan of painting things that don't *have* to be painted, but I agree that they need a little sprucing up. The clear gloss pain sounds like it might look nice.

HI -- I would not paint them . They are more formal looking the way they are and planted with a globe boxwood or Boston ferns . Actually I would put a filler in them and top with a shiny garden globe and fill around with some pretty colored fine stones or some colorful aquarium gravel .

That aged look is what you want. That's the way they should look. The paint won't stick and it will eventually peel off and be unsightly.

If you really really want to paint them the only thing I suggest is a faux marble. This can be done in several colors or even a multiple of colored vein.

Here is the white close up.And the black. To add shine to the paint you can put a layer of glaze meant for outdoor use over it. Depending where you live you may get 2 or 3 years out of this paint effect. You can prolong the life of the paint by covering the pots in the winter or moving them into the garage.

I vote for glossy black. I would add color with my flowers.

I try not to put any perennial in them as they are my joy and get creative both summer and winter changing the type of flowers and colors each year! will post when done! thank you everyone.

I'm glad you are leaving them as is. I hope my illustrations helped you to see how painting would affect the look of your yard.

The program I use is called Gimp2 - it's a free program much like Photoshop . There is a large learning curve to it's use. That being said it's a very powerful tool and after using it and Photoshop for years I am still learning.
