I am not sure if you already thought about doing this but I thought I may as well bring it up. While you are renovating how about extending the deck over the garage area (Like in your photo) with columns and above adding a but more bulk to the roof line! It might be a bit more expensive (Okay maybe more than a bit) but I think you'll get your money back out for sure. It would just look SO good!

Yes I'm thinking of wrapping the deck around and the window above the garage is the master bedroom so I'd like to have double sliders out the deck. And thinking possibly changing the garage doors to a wood grain look to help them stand out.
