Off kilter wall

My dining room is a study in asymmetry bc the chandelier is centered to the ceiling, not the back wall. I hate how it currently looks bc it is choppy. I want to eliminate the chest and just do something cohesive on the back wall. I am wallpapering the wall with a cool Python print wallpaper. I was thinking of putting three mirrors ? Any other ideas??? Help!

Looking at your wall again, I actually like the arrangement there. It's interesting and well balanced. I might try shifting the two parts--the art, and the chest and mirror--just a bit closer together, and I do mean a bit. Just enough to make them a hair more connected to each other.

And if the table really belongs centered on that wall, I'd bite the bullet and tear up the ceiling.

Three mirrors that replicate the left side doorway, spaced, so that the doorway becomes part of the arrangement--would provide cohesiveness and break up a bold patterned wallpaper. Your overall space may dictate table/lighting location--but, ultimately, shifting the chandelier & table to the right is needed to make you happy. I think consulting with an electrician is your next best step. I have off-center light fixtures in my house, similar to your situation; it is aggravating!

Susan, I looked into that and it's kind of a mess bc of speakers and recessed lighting. Need to work with the asymmetry if not I need to tear up entire ceiling!

Gotcha. I did notice the speakers et al & wondered about that.

Your chandelier is really nice... Could you re-purpose it to another area and, then install TWO smaller chandeliers over the table--shifting the table for symmetry? Make sense? I have moved light fixtures around with good results and even swagged a chandelier to center it over a table. Of course, that would not work well with your fixture :-/

Hi Susan nowhere else really to put the chandelier and I do love it. I think the three mirror idea and removing the chest will be the best bet. That's the top contender right now!

Question: Is the chandelier centered to the table and is the table in the optimal spot in the space? That really should determine everything else.

Erika, Nice mirror! I too like your current arrangement but understand your desire to change since it is off-kilter with table/chandelier. One last thought, I went to some trouble to hang a mirror in pretty much the same set-up as your dining room. Much to my dismay (!) the mirror was reflecting a view of my kitchen--which started an entirely different project. Be sure to check the "view" before investing in mirrors....
