Hidcote is one of the varieties that survive here in Denver, 5b. However, it's not uncommon for us to lose lav and sage plants just due to random temp swings. I would be very watchful of the drainage if it's that snowy.

Drainage is to critical. I have munstead, another English lavender, make it through winters here in Western NY State all the time and we are snow capital of the US. :)

Hidcote has survived the last two winters for me with only minimal damage. A few of my other English lavenders took heavy damage this year. So yeah, it's fairly cold tolerant.

Lavender is always worth a try ... 1 dollar for a plant, make a row of them.... if you get them well established before winter, they stand a better chance. I'm lost a few lavender this year, and i believe this was related to the location and roots more than anything else I'd say. Feet of snow act like an insulator, but no amount of snow can protect roots from ungainly soil.
