Did you ever figure it out? I want to know too!

No, i never did. I'm renovating my entire house. I did my kitchen cabinets in white dove. The island too. They came out beautiful. White and warm, but not stark. My counter tops are statuary marble on the perimeter and antiqued or leathered black granite on the island. The contrast is stunning.

I would love to see pictures of your finished kitchen. I'm getting ready to paint mine and am having a difficult time choosing the color. The layout sounds the same - marble counters and soapstone island - and I can't figure out if I should do the island dark even though the island counter is dark. I want the kitchen to be white, and I think I'm set on subway white tiles on the back wall/backsplash, but we've got three kids and my husband thinks too white would show too much dirt. I'll post a couple pics of my kitchen here. What do you think? I'd love to see your kitchen. I'm new to this website so please excuse me if I'm doing this wrong... We are also going to paint/glaze the new entertainment center to match. I'm going to post this here and then go try to post it to you personally as well. =)

This website has been so helpful to me with figuring out what I want. I also thought about the dark island, but decided (after seeing one on here), that I didn't like the dark and dark together. I do like dark island, but with same marble countertop everywhere. Does that make sense? So the way I ended up with deciding white everywhere was that i wanted marble, but wanted a more practical material on my island so that i could work off it and not worry. When I saw the picture on here (you commented on it too) the one with the black marble island top, i loved it and decided to do something similar to that. I have three boys and do worry about the white and keeping it clean. I have trained them to be careful! For the backsplash, i decided not to tile. I loved te marble so much (and couldn't decide on any tile) that I had a 5 inch piece made of it with the same special ogee edging to use as the backsplash. I will paint above to bring in some color. I took the same marble and made borders for under my hood and put a basket weave inside. My husband did t want everything sterile and white so that is how i came up with my idea. Painters are starting today with the inside of my house. Will see how it all comes out.

How exciting! It sounds awesome! I have the same concerns about the dark/dark island. I almost wish our counter colors were swapped so I could paint light on the cabinets and dark on the island.
