Help me pick paint for mudroom bench

We are nearing completion of our new build and I need to pick a paint colour for our mudroom locker/bench. I had been thinking we would just use the white trim colour, but my husband pointed out that it is going to show dirt and scratches more than a colour. The mudroom is BM wedgwood gray (which as you might see is actually blue), the main rooms are BM gray owl, with accents of a dark BM asphalt gray. So I was thinking I could chose either the light or dark gray that we have in the rest of the house (or the white trim colour) and it would be free and match.

Any suggestions?

Any paint is going to show wear and tear more quickly than a stain. That being said I like the idea of the white to pop against the wall color and tie in with the rest of the space. I may consider having my carpenter add another piece of wood about 1/2 way down between the seat and the current piece of wood for additional hooks. I don't think the high one is too high but placing the hooks on the dividers could be problematic. The dividers do not seem thick enough to support the weight of a hood that is loaded with backpacks or bags.

Above is a view of the rest of the mudroom with the bench just located on the left, and below is a picture of our great room with the light and dark gray paint colours (dark grey is only in the little desk alcove)

Also wondering if anyone has suggestions for the hardware placement. I was thinking of putting 3 hooks in each locker (both sides and one on back), and I'm wondering if I should place the back one on the wall or on the little strip of wood at the back. It seems like the hardware would be quite high if placed on the wood strip, but it seems strange to place it on the wall.

I would recommend painting it either the white trim color or the dark gray. The dark gray would definitely be more durable. As far as hardware placement, I would place the hooks on the wall, not on the strip of wood. I agree that that would be too high.

I think white would look great, but it does show the dirt. Mine does. I give it a good wipe down quite often.

So if wiping down often sounds like a pain, I'd go dark gray.

A&C Kitchens & Baths do you suggest that I just put one or two hooks on the upper piece of wood and then a couple of lower hooks on the lower rail and no hooks on the dividers?

I hadn't consider that they might not support the weight. I'm a bit worried that the items on the hooks would hang over one another in this configuration, but I could try taking some coats over and trying it out

Yes, that is exactly what I am suggesting. You take some coats over and maybe leave enough space so they could hang on the top and then use that as a guide on the lower hooks.

i have a similar set-up, painted white, and i need to wipe it down daily of pollen and dirt....so i would definitely sample the darker gray on the units, and consult with the painter about oil vs latex for durability. i'd also try for three hooks but on the wall not the top strip which seems very high in the pic...might be difficult to access. i'd mount the middle hook lower than the others. this one could be for a purse, scarf, or kid's backpacks.

Well I went and tried out the coat for measurement and it looks like I might have to use the upper piece of wood for the hangers! My coat reached just 3-4 inches off the bench when hung at the upper height. The top wood piece measures 6", so maybe place the hooks on the bottom 2/3 of this? Any suggestions of what might look nicer?

Yes, the bottom 2/3 sounds good. You want to make sure that you can easily get the coats on/off the hooks as some of them are really tall. I think this is a great project and hope you post some final pics of the space so we can all see how you finished it off!
