Need help with evergreen (X-posted tree forum)

Does anyone know the name of those cute, skinny little evergreen
trees? I see them all over the place as landscaping, but no one
available to ask what they are. They're usually planted in groups and
they look like they're about 12 to 15 feet tall. I think they keep
growing, just very slowly.

They look like the top third of this tree, but they seem to stay
small. I saw some in a garden that had been planted about 15 years ago
and were still less than 20' tall.

I'd like to get seven and make a little 'forest' garden between the
road and the rose/herb garden (off to the right of picture). There's a
small hill up to the road and I think it would help give the arbor (in
the distance) some privacy. Maybe with a small water
feature....different, but it would look good with the pines on the back
hill :)

You might do well to ask in the conifer forum. There are a bunch of folks there with great mental vocabularies of conifer varieties.

I was going to suggest DeGroot's Spire, which is an arborvitae. I planted six in the orchard as an allee'. I began planting them in 2008, they are suppose to reach a height of 10' and several are about that now and all stay fairly "skinny". I had a deer come through one year tho and must have rubbed antlers against one, breaking down one side. It re-grew rather quickly but has an odd shape now.

I very happy with them, they grow fast, seem healthy still, have a deep green/sometimes blueish cast, and stay smaller in diameter than other arborvitae. The one drawback - they are costly, at least when I was buying mine. I could only afford one or two a year.

The DeGroots is much less open, for want of a better term, than the one LL posted. The Picea omorika (Serbian Spruce) is similar, but its branches tend to sweep upward more than the one in the picture and it is less perfectly shaped, I think. I hope someone can identify it! I would love to have one just like that one, LL! It is perfect.

Here's the only somewhat good photo I can find of the waterfall garden at St. Luke's. The trees are about 15' tall and one of the employees said they were planted over 10 years ago.

The ones I'm looking for are in the back of the picture, just to the left/back of the waterfall. The waterfall is only about 4' to 5' above the pool.

It looks like a spruce to me, so I would do a web search for fastigate or columnar spruce. Picea abies 'Cupressina'/columnar Norway Spruce, and Picea pungens 'Fastigiata'/Columnar Blue Spruce are two that popped up in a quick search from a bunch of sources.
