Retro redo

I have an open concept area of my home which includes my kitchen, dining room, and living room. I really like retro and shabby chic. I feel though that I end up putting a jumble of things together that end up looking like a teenager designed it. I want something that looks like an adult designed it but also looks happy and inviting. I have my dining room table as shown that I can't part with and I also have this retro couch I want to have covered. I need help with wall color and couch color. Any tips and ideas will be greatly appreciated!

I dont know if you want retro cutie or retro cool, either way I'd consider a teal/ red combo. I also really like cartoon wall.

If you don't have a need for all the seating I would start by taking out the leaf in the table. Pull two chairs on each side of your buffet or play around with placement of the two chairs in the room.

It would help to see the kitchen etc., not just the furniture. What color is the couch becoming or haven't you decided?

I would find curtains, fabric or art with red in it and use one of the other colors for the couch. My first thought was lipstick red like the chairs for the couch.

I grew up with a table like yours, only the chairs were yellow. I say if you love it, don't worry about how your room turns out...just take your time to enjoy the process of pulling it together and find additional things that you love.

I grew up with a table like that also. What fun. I would consider re-doing the sofa in white or grey. That will probably be a main piece and would keep it neutral, pick up the reds, turquoise pinks or blues in other pieces. There is no doubt that the sofa is retro so don't feel you have to re-do in orange, red or green. :>) Try black & white with red accents.

Awesome vintage pieces! I believe that the most important "rule" of decorating is to live with things you love. I vote for turquoise fabric for the sofa. As seen in the fabrics mia posted, red and turquoise are a classic vintage combo. Then I would paint the walls white, and use splashes of pattern for pillows and rugs. Please keep us posted and have fun!

Paint the dining room white. Add a black buffet table and this great IKEA light. Use a geometric patterned rug in the living room.

it brings back memories of my aunt's kitchen. she had lots of 1940's cherries decor but it could be retro cool with coke cola decor like a diner.
