Painting stucco exterior

Ours is a 1950's Bauhaus-style house with white stucco exterior. We are considering having the stucco painted for the first time. We will try to match the original color and character. Painter advises a flat latex.

We are house proud and don't want to make a mistake. I've seen some recommendations to not repaint original stucco, if not essential. Comments appreciated!

it's best to re stucco but your next best option is elastomeric paint not standard exterior house paint
