I'd say groundhogs or rabbits.

slugs wouldnt do that over night ...

fluff up the soil ... and see if you can get some prints ...

or look for scat ...

and boy.. that would have to be one tall wabbit.. lol ..

No scat, no footprints, no soil disturbance whatsoever. The dill was nearly 3 ft tall and nothing was bent or trampled like it had been pulled down to feed. I am stumped!

no.. i want you to rake out the soil ... and see if you can find some tracks.. when they come back to the salad bar ... most are creatures of habit ...

and the nothing bent part was why i kind of ruled out wabbit

Since there is no scat and no caterpillar it may be something else, but I have had the same thing happen rapidly to my dill due to the cats of the black swallowtail butterfly. I finally put up a wire cage with small mesh plastic netting to keep them off - it worked...
If that is the culprit they are easy to spot when there - bright green, yellow and black (which google).

Sure looks like caterpillar damage to me! That exactly what my dill, parsley, and cilantro look like, if I let them have all they want.

Looks a lot like some caterpillars ate it at first glance but, since it is jumping from plant to plant, its probably a rabbit. Caterpillars also don't pull down plants and I don't recall too many liking cilantro or basil. Dog hair is "supposed" to be effective at deterring rabbits but I find the actual dog is more effective. Though it leads to a lot of broken plants. A small cage would probably be ideal, small hole hardware cloth. Rabbits can get through welded wire fencing so it needs to be smaller!

That depends on the mesh of the fencing. Rabbits can get through 2 x 4 welded wire fencing easily, but would have a hard time with a 1 by 1 welded wire fence material.
