Please HELP, Living in Limbo!

last modified: 10 years ago

Hi all, well, it's almost officially a year living here now. This was the first room we started working on and guess what? We're STILL working on it!

Had a previous dilemma regarding our sofa. Sofa shown is the actual *style*, just not the actual one....so waiting on its replacement (with slightly different colored fabric and darker wood frame/legs).

Now we're still STUMPED on the rug, AND the chairs, AND the coffee table, AND the wall paint....

Anyway, shown is the West Elm rug just delivered yesterday. Love the rug.....just not *loving* it in the room.

We were ***this*** close to purchasing another rug (that was just a tad over our spending comfort zone). So, when we saw this WE rug online that to us looked so similar to the other one....and for about 1/3 of cost (on sale)....of course, we jumped on it.

But for some reason, it just doesn't feel "right"....something about it just doesn't seem to be jiving for me paired with the art (shown in the last pic below). Yes, it's growing on me but still a little disappointed that I'm not "loving" it.

FYI, I quickly put together a (public) ideabook of what we hope to achieve in terms of the style and "feel". Something more "MCM-inspired" (which is a big challenge in itself).....with the art being our inspiration piece and guide for color:

http://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/50121964/thumbs/mcm-inspired

Please help! I feel like we need to figure out the rug before moving on to the other elements in the room.

This is supposed to be our "forever home".....just don't want to take forever to finish it! :-(

I was looking forward to seeing your ideabook after reading the last few comments but then realized it was private. :-( So I'm hoping at some point you can share things on the thread as they progress.

We had a very successful trip to Fergusons for plumbing....got everything ordered except sconces. I don't have a 3D rendering, just technical ones, but I will include my inspiration pic as well as the stuff we ordered...progress, but still no word on the Dekton.

Our bathroom is exactly the same except that the we have separate vanities with a door to the closet in between.

How gorgeous is that going to be.

Thanks, Wendy....we hope so! Still struggling with the wall tile for the shower and tub surround...in the inspiration pic it is a basalt tile which is way out of our budget, plus it has to be sealed regularly, which I don't want...trying to find something similar is proving pretty difficult!

Oh, and the finish on the fixtures is actually a brushed nickel but is kind of a bronze color as you can see from the pics. I'm not sure I like it and finding sconces without metal to clash might prove impossible....may have to do polished chrome which I like, just hate the spots. We have it in another bathroom and I literally have to winded it to get the streaks out...can you tell I don't like to clean?

@Kcooz, no worries....did you get the message?

    DD.....ditto to Wendy's comment. It's truly gorgeous!

I love Fergusons too....did you go to their showroom downtown?

    Yes, thank you...I'm looking now.

    Lol. DD.

I think that is the worst. Seeing a product that is perfect, but there is no way it is within budget. Nothing ever quite lives up to the one you really want.

Trying to match metals is crazy. Every company has it's own version or just doesn't make certain finishes. I want all unlacquered brass. But, not every company uses that finish. So, do I go with antiqued or polished, I go back and forth. I do think polished chrome goes with just about everything.

DD, I'm loving that idea with the sconces! Looking back, wish we had done something like that instead of the typical lights above the vanity mirror.

Love the style of all the fixtures you show too. Is the bathroom inspiration photo from Joshua Rice?

Oh....and I'm really pulling for you with the Dekton. I can't believe it's been such a challenge.

KCooz, good to know! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Yes, it is a Joshua Rice project.

Dirt Digger- I just finished reading The Shack. Funny, how you never know when or where you read something that will make an impact on your life. I would not have read the book if I had not read this on Avery's thread. I guess it is a *ripple* like mentioned in the book:) The tears are still running down my face. I know the book had an impact on my life, and I can only hope for the better. Of course, I still have so many questions ,but it has opened my eyes and heart to a new way of thinking. I recommend the read!

Margo? You read the book that quickly? Wasn't that just yesterday? I have to go find it now!

Ladies (and Fred!)... We've started a new "Gathering" thread. Please join us!

I'm glad, Margo....it definitely opens your eyes to the big picture....and somehow makes sense of things that in our eyes, never make sense. It is hard to put down!

Margo, thanks so much for the book review! Now I'm more intrigued..... I'm glad too that something posted in this thread made a positive impact in someone's life. That's always a good thing!

Btw, thank you DD for sharing that book with us!

and I'm with Bubbasgma....quite impressed with Margo's quick reading ability! Lol!

The book is only 248 pages. When I focus, I focus;)

    Obviously! ;-)

So glad you liked it Margo. And though I usually hate hearing about tears...those kind of tears I don't mind so much. We all need to have a good cry every once in a while, especially over something that moves us like a good book can.

Good morning, ladies.... I'm needing to wait a few more days to begin reading. But as soon as I can, I plan to. Hope everyone is warm and safe!

Good morning, bubbasgma! I guess you found the book? We are going to be in the 60's today...kind of feel guilty with all the snow and ice bound folks!

G'Morning, DD. Found the book at the top of my bookshelf!! I've got a "thing" going on with my eyes. As soon as I can wear my glasses again...

We're 28 and overcast here, but no new snow. Still waiting to hear from my DD on the east coast.

Isn't it just gut wrenching when you're worried about kids? Mine both live within an hour of me and I STILL worry like they're little...I think it's even worse when you don't see them every day, all day! I need to work on that!

LOL! Oh my gosh...you can say that again! My oldest travels thru Africa for work. He's in his 30's, I sleep better if I just pretend he's away at college.

Wow, I can't even imagine! You have a great attitude....denial! I do that as well!

Queens of Denial! It's either that or CHOCOLATE!

View of my front yard early this morning. I'm estimating that drift in the foreground to be 3-4'. And my cute Aussie, Katie. I live in Virginia.

    There ya go...works for me!

I know the snow is causing a lot of serious problems, but it is really beautiful! And Katie seems to like it! Have any of you seen the video of the giant panda playing in the snow? So cute!

Babophz - it really is beautiful! We were lucky this time - no power outages. We also have four wheel drive vehicles so we can usually get where we need to go. We live in a rural area and bought a large generator that runs circuits for the most important things - refrigerator, microwave, well pump and pool table light. :).

bab... I saw that video! Adorable!

Awwww....he's having such a good time!

    I know!!! So cute!

I posted a few more videos of her on the Gathering. I think I'm in LOVE!

I'm in NC so also got hit by the storm. Our power flickered about 15 times, but luckily didn't go out for long!

All this talk of snow is making me nostalgic of my good old Michigan days. Snow days here are few and far between....

Though I do feel for all you that have had to weather these bad storms recently. Just glad I haven't seen or heard of anyone having too many issues. Stay safe and warm everyone.

Such cute pandas Bab and Bubbasgma! Makes me want to get one for myself.....though not sure how cute they'd be as pets in the real world. Just look so cuddly though.... :-)

So Avery did you ever pick a designer?

Dorothy, not sure if Avery is checking this thread anymore or not but I do know she chose a designer, although I'm not sure which from the choices above.

The couple who lived here divorced and the house was sold and then converted into a rest home for Nuns. Then it sat vacant and was a notorious party house for juvenile delinquents. It is scheduled to be razed to make way for an Amazon distribution warehouse.
