Could it be a spider mite? I thought it was too big but maybe I'm wrong.

I could easily be wrong, but it kinda resembles the shape of a tick.

I agree about the shape but I've never seen ticks move as quickly or in groups like these guys. I also did a search for red tick and it didn't look like any of them.

8 legs and too big for a mite... so a spider by logical deduction? Are they eating your plant or are they hunting?

I honestly don't know. I looked pretty closely at the mint yesterday when I discovered the aphid infestation on my Rosemary and didn't see anything. Then this afternoon there were at least 4 of these guys. 2 scurrying around the leaves like crazy, 2 just hanging out under some leaves.

Possibly a spider has lain eggs in or near your mint.

Can you catch one and put it in a jar and take it to the Ag center for ID?

I didn't see any on Friday when I last looked but if I see anymore I'll try.

It can be difficult to ID from one picture, but I would certainly suspect spiderlings or ticks. It appears to be too large to be a velvet or clover mite.

If you do manage to capture one, stick it in the freezer for 30 minutes or more. That will slow it down long enough for you to take some good pictures for us! :-)
