I like them when used effectively such as in this picture. Like how you have darker chairs to pick up the darker more dramatic wall and a lighter sofa to pick up the lighter wall. Both wall colors compliment one another. It is basically a monochromatic room with varying shades of one color. Works for me.

It's such a personal decision. I prefer a room to be all the same color and let the art and furniture be the focal points, instead of the wall color that your eyes go to right away, but that's just me.

I love them as I love color. I had to go with them when my main paint color turned out to make the house so dark I had to have lights on by 3 p.m. in the dead of summer. We love them so it was a blessing, but it's a personal choice.

I like your inspiration picture. The thing I've learned since we started renovating our house is that if a color doesn't work out, you can always repaint. And I have a couple of times.

I'm pro accent wall, but as someone else said, used in a purposeful way to highlight architecture or other features.

In general we don't like accent walls. They can work but they're most often not necessary or they actually detract.

It's interesting that people who admittedly know nothing about decorating always mention accent walls.

I love accent walls, if the intent is to accent.;)

Accent walls are great and a way of bringing color into a room without it being too overpowering! Just like in the picture it's good to paint the accent wall the color you choose to accent your room with such as in the chairs or throw pillows.

Accent walls can add diversity to a room. They also can act as a nice focal point.

Accent walls can work well, but I'm currently anti. The previous owner of the house had an accent wall that should have been great -- behind a fireplace, color I love, decent sized room. We decided to change the color in an adjoining room and so ended up painting the former accent wall the same neutral as the rest of the room... wow! Instantly the room felt huge and light-filled. I couldn't be happier.
