Heres cool idea for some wall art, we got it from ikea and everyone who sees it has loved it

its a 4' x 6' wall hung canvas and cost 180$

Gary, what do you have in mind for furniture? sofa, 2 chairs, end tables, lamps? Leather, fabric? real leather can get expensive, especially when furnishing a whole house. I assume that the TV is going up pretty quickly, so probably a sofa and chairs. Are you painting or will this be the wall colors? I would guess that you want pretty neutral colors. I'll start with sofa.

Your carpet and walls appear to be light beige? How about a navy blue sofa?

For accent chairs, I would get 2. Place sofa facing FP and chairs on either side facing each other.

Chairs do not have to match each other or the sofa.

I'll give you some options for accent tables

maybe tell us what colors you like? I love Susan's blue couches, but I am a blue fiend. Do you have any furry friends? If so, what is there color? So far susan is doing great, table, entertainment unit, do you really like books? Anything else you like to display? Otherwise go get art you love and you will be set. have fun.

So, you will want to beef out your fireplace surround to compensate, face a sofa that direction, and place a sofa console table against the back of that. Let the additional seating fit needs: regular crowds = u shaped sectional; regular dates = attractive side chairs. :) Your coffee table then needs to be large enough for all those guests, whatever their number, to set a glass down on.

Sticking to dark woods will mimic the existing woods, and add heft. Add heavy texture in accessories to keep interest in a paired down palette ( I see you are Mr. Monochromatic), so look at jute, mohair, hand forged metals, etc. for your smaller bits.

Lower casegoods flanking the fireplace will allow sconce lighting for some ambiance above, and if you have high storage needs, place larger casegoods against the right wall, and balance.

Wood ( faux is fine)slat blinds with attention to the trim tape is enough to keep a polished look at the window, but if you like the thought of drapery,

menswear wools, duck, velvet all give a clean finish.

A 65" TV will eat your fireplace alive. Why not put it on the wall opposite the window? It'll give you a better viewing angle and look better too.

Or the fireplace will eat his TV alive. If you want to send me the dimensions of the room, GAry I can do a floor plan, so you can see (at least a starting point) on where the furniture will fit. Seeing that you have an entire LR/DR to fill, I just did the basics for furnishings until you give the advisors here the go ahead on a full court press on all décor. Also maybe after seeing some of the furniture that will be advised, you might have a better idea, what color palate you like.

I see a sectional (leather) restoration hardware, mitchell gold job williams, ethan allen, west elm....maybe a grey color on the wall with blues, greys, etc

I have read several pros on Houzz nix the tv over the fireplace idea. How about in one of the 2 matching shelving units you put on both sides of the fireplace?

Televisions look best when they are not on the focus wall. I agree with another comment. I would put it on wall opposite window. Furniture does not have to face TV.

They would store their best booze, glass ware, and accessories and it usually had a place to mix them. Oh, excuse, shake them, Mr. Bond. Hehehe. ok, I looked on Houzz under "Vintage Bar". I am gonna try to put pictures here, but I am a notorious failure at this, so you can always look in my idea books under bar, also you know now how to look them up. Or look on ebay or vintage/antique stores.

definitely classic and heavy with the darker wood, will balance out the tv and look all male. The brass will give you some lovely highlights guys rooms tend to be all dark.

Wonderful, antiquey, oriental touch, gives the light and airy feel, with heaviness or darker green. Ladies should love it, even if you don't use it for drinks. The night's appetizers, snack plates, ice storage for the brewskys.

definitely for a dude, you can all belly up and put your toes up or put stools all around. You could barrel art in that corner, including a Houdini poster. For the ladies, little known fact first person over the falls was a lady. Just frame a copy of her photo or the news story, should be real conversation piece.

my last, but not least entry, find a nice strong dark colored table or cabinet, set this on one corner, and get a nice tray, brass would be great. This is a wonderful conversation piece open or closed. I think any of the above should add depth and often even class to your room. It will also help even out the tv, no matter what wall you put it on. Gone for now 007. have fun and let us see.

@Studio I faved that first pic a while ago and I still love it. I was thinking about a bar type with metal legs overlooking the sofa.... Not too tall though.

I have been thinking about floating shelves in leu of furring my fireplace to accommodate book shelving.

Metal or stone facade up the fireplace would be nice as well.

I am almost sold on 2" blinds at this point because they are easiest to automate... But I am open to suggestions. I am a little worried too much dark wood will spoil a modern look.

I have reviewed many RH products but am not very impressed with their comfortability.... Too rustic for my liking and the premium they charge.

I do like the blue sofa's. They add color but still remain neutral. I am leaning that way.

I love the artwork as well. Vibrant colors should stand out in this room.

Don't laugh... Attractively modern, comfortable and clean.

I like the artwork posted as well and will have to take a deeper look once I have some of these choices nailed down.

Also, I have been looking at sectionals but I am unsure about the large space needed. I would guess the room is about 15x12.

I like the idea of a chase for lounging.

My front room would be best for the sit down and talk but don't get too comfortable style. :)

If you look you can get shades that let you pull them up or down, they come in fabric. By going down instead of up, you get light but no views in or out., fabric looks softer automatically, and you can have in a lighter pattern or shade without losing the darkening ability and privacy.

everytime I get done you post again, think carefully about the sectional. i had a large wrap around, and it totally defined everything. Fine at first, but after you say, uggh, and then you have to invest so much to change. individual chairs/recliners/chaise and maybe a love seat or two will allow to replace only what you are tired of. or change a couple, get them recovered and change the whole look. also easier to seat people and move around.

It is a wooden antiqued globe that spins too. The globe opens up to cocktail glasses and accessories. It is a great conversation piece but is a bit too classical for this space.

Wow. How fun - a blank space to fill! I just have to attach a few
things for you to consider. I agree with Grover that your TV, if at all
possible, should not go over the fireplace. This has become a very
popular trend which must be making the chiropractors ecstatic! TVs
SHOULD be at eye-level for proper viewing without neck strain (We get enough of that neck strain by looking at our cell phones).
The sectional sofa attached would be in front of your window with the chaise side away from the fireplace. (Don't know if this would be too big. Depends on your room size).

Garyredford, this might be a bit much for you, though I am sure houzzers will help, but i have seen more than one home in my time which was a successful marry of more than one style. I remember a couple I knew did a beautiful marry of antique India and modern scandanavian. He wanted all those things he could not have as a poor child in India. She wanted the comforts of her homeland. The marriage and home worked out great. Just keep like you said background furnishings simple but tasteful like the blue couch then do the punches of antiques, art etc. that you like. And please try to buy original art that you love as opposed to lots of prints, I think it will serve you better in the long run. have fun.
