I have a Sweetheart lychee that is about 16 ft tall now. It was planted way back in 2007 when it was about 4 ft tall. I heard it can grow to 20-30 ft or
even taller if you allow it to. I try to prune the tree to stay at about 10-14 ft ideally (for ease of harvesting), but sometimes it just wants to grow straggly limps both horizontally and vertically. I try to trim them down
after they fruit in mid July (heard it from Puglvr). I've already read about
not clipping branches more than 1" thick so fruit production is not affected.

If I were you, observe your plant for a while and if it looks healthy, you can
plant it as soon as possible as fruit tree takes time to establish themselves. I think the Spring or Fall might be a good time to plant it though. In the Summer months, it might be too hot and the plant may have
a hard time to take the heat shock.

You said you were in Stuart, FL. Is that to the north? I'm a little curious
about your 10a planting zone as I was having the impression that the north has a colder planting zone, or maybe not?

In any case, hope you'll enjoy your little Sweetheart there. Mine has given me a dozen fruit for the first time this year after 8 years in the ground ... I was told they are scanty producers, but their fruit so far is the best tasting for me. There's a lot more succulent flesh to it because of its chicken tongue seeds. Maybe there's a way to boost its fruit production ... I have yet to learn about it. The other reason(s) that it's not producing much fruit for me might be I was clipping off more than 1" thick branches off it, but my reasons may not be definitive. There's still a lot to learn about lychee trees for me.

Thanks for the info. Stuart is in Martin County, due east of Lake O so we are not too far north. I am on the eastern part about .5 miles from the intracoastal. I've tried the low chill peach & apple with dismal results. Time to go with what does well in the zone.

The Loquat, Mango & Paradise tree are doing well. I planted a Guava but it is struggling with the nematode here. The Lychee seems well suited to the sandy soil here. My neighbor across the road has a monstrous Lychee. Must be 30 ft tall with a truck of 2 ft. I really don't want one that big. He is not the original owner so has no ideal what variety it is.

Is it possible for you to post a picture of it? It would be interesting to see such a huge tree loaded with fruit.
