Can anyone suggest a chandelier also?

If red is changed to white, to match the lower, the space will expand, and the curtains, ceiling adn floor will pop. Two good coats of primer before trying to paint over red. Chandelier, something in the tone of ceiling color or table color. There is a new antique brass finish out this year might be worth looking into, or oil rub bronze would work with your table and clock on wall.

Thanks!! We had the walls white for 3 years and everyone complained that they were boring. We also tried that brass/ antique finish on the chandelier. It looked as if we had gotten it from a garage sale at 8 pm as they were closing for $5pm so we took it off. I think we need to change it all together but I have no idea as to what.

Silhouettes blinds would really make the room more formal and alot softer.

I'd try finding an exact match to the ceiling on a paint color chip and testing the lighter versions of the shades. Also find a paint chip to match the drapes and maybe the next shade darker. Get small samples and test on large pieces of white cardboard, leaving white edges so you can isolate the colors from the red wall. One of those should look great. You said you can't get rid of the drapes, but the style is dated. Can you use the fabric to make drapes without the self-valance and pouf, i.e., that just skim the ground. (If you really love them, ignore this and enjoy though.) If you want to update the current fixture, Cantilever's suggestion of toning down the brass is great. And the Petersiks of Young House Love did it with a chandelier like yours at http://www.younghouselove.com/2011/09/the-updated-light-fixture-blues/ A drum shade or something more modern with help take the traditional to exciting as long as had a traditional color and weight to tie to the room. Search for traditional dining rooms on HOUZZs and see what modern fixtures have been mixed in.

I'm going to suggest a clay colour in a mid tone for the upper walls. It would tie in the ceiling (is it metallic?).
It's impossible to match by a photo...especially an on-line photo...bur take a look at Benjamin Moore's #CC 360 Potter's Clay or Pittsburgh's # 319-5 Covered Wagon.
Either one of these should tone in with the ceiling & give some contrast & definition with the draperies.
I agree with Cantilever's suggestion for oil rubbed bronze for the lighting. It always looks great with dark wood, & the lights give you the sparkle.

The exact wallpaper shown in the photo I posted is identified as Kravet 3080-1, but I would go to your local paint store with a swatch of your drapery fabric to find a wallpaper that is just right for your room.

If wallpaper is not in the budget (and my DOH calls DIY wallpapering "divorce time"), I would suggest painted stripes that are tone-on-tone - one set flat and one set semigloss.

great suggestions .. just a thought. The clock seems to be a bit high on the wall. I would bring it down to midrange-eyelevel after you decide on paint. The drapes are gorgeous, as is the ceiling. I think a pale gold or buttery taupe might be pretty with your gold accents

Maybe you should have a little more fun in the dining room, its like the jewel box of your home. A warm plum color would give the room a rich maybe more boho feel ,a charcoal would make it modern... but I really think a medium teal would make the room sing... the contrast it would create with the ceiling would update the space and yet it's a very classic color combo, looks very pretty with dark woods.... orange and blue are complimentary colors. Add some gold tone accessories and update your chandelier to one more like in the photo from Michigammemom. You have ample fabric to work with your drapes, sewn into simple panels with ring clips on the rod would finish things off. Here's some color schemes pics...

I know you said you can't change the drapery, but...are the curtain panels attached to the swag? If not, I would remove the swag, remove the tie backs, and hem the panels to just touch the floor for a more updated look.

I would paint the red walls a gray-blue such as SW magnetic gray. You may not even have to change your drapery tie backs since red and blue can work very well together.

yes, please re-hem those panels...they should not take up that much real estate. !
