I have about 10 more trays with over 1000+ leaves that have rooted and have plantlets too. This is one that I finally got around to fixing up.

I also have a few props on my secondary sill. Some of them I'm ready to toss out since I really don't think I will do anything with them either because of space of just how untidy they look, but some I might keep growing them and maybe sell/gift it to people.

This beheaded echie grew a bunch of new plants on the stem but since there's not enough light they are all stretching already... probably first on my "to go" list

This pachyphytum leave is propagating next to it pretty well

Another Pachy. They look so yummy....

The new seedling I separated from the Aloe aristata. The roots are not quite established yet so some of the older leaves are dying but glad to see some new growths starting.

Mixed echies and some others in this one...

    A variegated jade

And finally...the "Morgan's Beauty" cutting is rooted in her new home with some new growths

The few leaves I took off from it when I was rooting it also have some bright pink roots now... going to wait till it's a bit more established before I actually plant them

DavidL- Thanks for posting, I hope they have succulents wherever you go on your vacation!

This one is just an experiment - will it pup or will it rot? There is 4 pups I can see one one stem (it is soft-looking in the middle, but I am not watering it); sitting on top of grit, some grit is keeping stem put:

Difficult to see, but there is tiny sprout there, it's about 7 weeks now:

Dryed-up leave fell of just few days ago, tiny pup is growing. The leaf started growing roots in March 2014:

Rina- How awesome. I love when this happens! is the last pic a pachyphytum variety?

Just finished rooting some Schlumbergera truncata, set 1/2" to 1" deep in gritty mix for almost a month (just planted with some other cuttings which were already rooted earlier in the year by a friend):

Really enjoying watching these Sedum rubrotinctum babies grow - they came along with another plant I bought 3 weeks ago and are coming along nicely! 3 of the 5 stray leaves have sprouted (the fifth had roots but yellowed out very quickly and was thrown out):

A few others in the "waiting but no progress stage". Hopefully they turn out. =)

ewwmayo- If you've never had rubrotinctum before, one successful propagation is all you really need. by next season you could have at least 50 or more plants easily! My favorites are the rubrotinctum mini and 'aurora.'

Neil, I believe it is pachyphytum oviferum. The leave fell off and was cracking - just left it there and it slowly rooted (it took a while!):

Neil - These will be my first rubrotinctums. Can't wait to see what kind they end up being!

Rina - Those pachyphytums are so cute. Kind of like them even more than the adult plants, hehe.

top right - I believe fallen leaves from graptopetalum superbum (I managed to brake 1 small rosette, so small leaves)

I am propagating this and it finally has some new growth coming in.

Thanks Neil! The C&S Forum here has been a great source of information.

I'm so glad to have found this site! It's good to know there are others out there who are as crazy for succulents as I am! I have been taking clippings from family for years making my own plants and teacher gifts with them, but I know that I have so much to learn. I just visited my sister in arroyo grande, CA and I was in heaven taking little samples from her yard! We also went to this beautiful shop called Rons where my head almost exploded! Lol

I bought some little plants and took samples of the ones my sister bought as well. I'm wondering if there is a proper way to propagate that will give me the best results? I'll take any advice, even if you're yelling at me for doing it wrong! ;)

Here are the photos of my setup I started the other night...

These are what was left of the branches that I took the leaves of of, I thought I would have a better chance to just pop them in the succulent soil. (It's worked for me before)

Here are the 2 (foil pizza) trays that I put sterile sand on then the leaves(?)....

    Any advice????

    Thank you so much!!!

i think its a ghost plant is it ???

Kristy, the leaves you're propagating look nice and neat, better than most of mine so A+ on that! Your cuttings from the first photo...as long as you let them heal off first then, stick them in soil/gritty mix you should be ok.

Coolice- you can't tell what a plant is just from a leaf. (usually) a lot of them look alike.

    Where did you get them?

H D i saw tthem every where i also saw the plant where it came from to me it looked like a ghost plant

And, where is the parent plant? They don't sell just the leaves at HD so, I hope you didn't do what I think you did!

    last modified: 11 years ago

I did but only the ones that were on the ground so it dosent really count

Coolice, I hope you're right about that.

    Kristy
    Lots of future plants!
If I may - one question and suggestion: are there drainage holes in the pizza pans? Sand seems to be very fine. Finer it is, more it compacts and doesn't allow for proper drainage. Leaves and cutting need good drainage just like plants.

In the first photo, you have many plants; is that a temporary set-up? It looks like a plastic bin. I wouldn't leave them there for too long, I would think it may be too hot for them there and no air circulation (don't know where you are located). And again, provide good drainage.

You have a great variety there - hope you post photos of them (at least some) potted up.

    I think i am

Reason : HD will just throw out those leafs in the trash

So it really doesn't count if they going throw them

    ok ok. gosh, golly

alright folks. here's an update pic of my propagating madness. I have more trays and containers but, not enough room to take a picture of the entire collection.

Have over a thousand leaves and cuttings in this area and some more in another area. I would say about 90% have put out roots and plantlets that have formed. (so far)

I only have one propagation going right now...the top of a variegated Jade plant. The cutting sent out some roots just laying on a pile of other cuttings, so I put it in this small pot and I've begun watering it. I find that this Jade is particularly easy to root.

Tony- are those props Graptopetalums and pachyphytum & echeveria?

    last modified: 11 years ago

@Neil- YUP! I have a lot more leaves in a shoes box sitting in my room waiting for signs of props. I heard low light help the leaves prop faster. Once they start to show roots and new pups, I put them in pots under shade outdoor. Once the old leaves shrivel up and it's a little more established, I put them in morning sun with afternoon shade. I'm still very new and learning a lot about these amazing plants.

Thought I had too many Lil leaves laying around until I saw these photos lol. Only a few have any growth but time will tell I guess..good luck on all your little guys and Neil if you could mail me the little red and black pot in your last photo that would be sweet ty haha

    LOL Mr. White!

So I noticed my cobweb sempervivum lost a bit of it's webbing and I tossed it up to the heavy torrential downpour we experienced a few days ago. But to my surprise, it seems it's just growing some chicks! I'm excited.
