What a great space! It looks to me like you have attempted to fill the space with tables along the walls. I would suggest look at the hallway, like a series of rooms that are not yet defined. You can create a seating "room" with a bench and some cushions along the wall, perhaps near the entry. You can create a "library" using shelving along the walls for books. You can create an art "room" to display groupings of photos and artwork. These areas can be further defined by using area rugs to separate the spaces a bit. What is the style of your home, and what is the style you are looking to create? I love the color grey, but it can darken a space too much. Have you thought of adding a tray ceiling or some crown molding?

thank you! Yes, we are estimating the cost of crown molding and adding wood work to the walls, tray molding? Forgive me I'm not up on the lingo. Yes, we put table on the walls because that is what we had and now I want to fix it. What do you think about 2 comfortable chairs, and a table in between for reading, I have seen it on this site and it looks good. We need art... The style of my home is traditional, but I want to add some flair, modern flair, with furniture and fabric, but not too modern because that would look out of place. You can't tell, but right by the door the ceiling opens up and is very high all the way to the top of the second floor. Thank you again for your helpful comments.

A tray ceiling is when part of the ceiling is recessed, and the sides are built down about 8" on all sides. I attached an image for you to look at. For artwork, I might suggest some framed vintage posters for a more modern look.
