Lots of questions. Firstly, where in the world is it growing? Secondly is that the whole plant or a bunch of pieces?

If it is cut from a bush and has quite cloying smelling flowers it could be Elder. But it is not possible to tell if the leaves are correct for that because they are all bunched up.

Not elder. Can we get a picture of the whole plant along with answers to Floral's questions?

I don't think it's Sambuscus nigra but I certainly wouldn't rule out another Sambucus species or cultivar until I've seen the leaves properly. Possibly S ebulus?? A rhizomatus perennial rather than a shrub. Sambucus ebulis

How about, not any of the North American native and common Sambucus species. I am not familiar with S. ebulis so can't comment on that specifically.
